Update to "A Group I'm Subscribed to, is Locked"

Hi everyone

The group just got unlocked today. I don't know why it was locked, but now we can all post. Yay! Thanks for your help, everyone!

Re: Disabled group

Misdonna -- Unlike Yahoo Groups, Mark takes copyright law very seriously. If the goal is for groups.io to continue to exist and flourish, we all should.
?
I'm no more of a decision-maker in this matter than Andy is; but in communicating with Mark, I suggest that you do your own research on copyright regulations as they relate to graphics content and provide some kind of evidence that you are capable of policing your groups more effectively going forward.?
?
"I don't know what I'm doing and you need to teach me" isn't a very convincing argument, and is in fact all the more reason not to reinstate PSPMania.

We are a group of users trying to help others so it's not our ruling. If your group has been disabled because members are sharing copyright content then this is against the Groups.io Terms of Service.
?
I looked up your group pspmania in the Group Directory:

If you try to get to that group home page, the message is quite clear:

So, nobody here can help you. The only person that you can discuss this with is Mark at [email protected] but if your group has been sharing copyright content then I would say the chances of it being enabled again are pretty much zero.

Disabled group

Hello
I'm Misdonna and I'm still in shock over my group being disabled.? I had 167 members and email working just fine.
I was also a paying member for the group myself for the last 3 years?? Not sure when but sounds right.
?
I had been sick and when I came back, my group was disabled.? I have no idea what was shared...show me and why wasn't I give a written "warning" first.?? I've had Incredimail since 2001 I think.??? I don't know where this email should go and to whom?? I'm sorry if I sound upset but I am.? I'm 70 years old and I so enjoyed the groups.?
?
Would you all consider this new ruling you have made concerning copyright??? I also had been talking with Barbara about what all was copyright? I was never familiar with that because we never used to worry about it before.
?
There should be examples in your rule book on what we as owners and monitors are to look for.
?
My group has always been friendly and working well unless my computer broke down or some stuff like that.
?
I know there are others sharing copyright stuff unintentionally......I've been in these groups as?I said many years.? Copyright "spotting" is new to alot of us.?I was learning all I could about that and still needed clarification.? ?
?
Thanks for taking the time
Misdonna

That's because?Yahoo handles email for sbcglobal.net, similar to my case, the bouncy messages I get are from MS Outlook (who hosts my domain) even if I send it to a groups.io address.

Cheers,

Re: A Group I'm Subscribed to, is Locked

The group was created in July of 2022. It has over 100 members.

True, but as I said, if it WAS Premium with more than 100, then it's locked by the system if a payment isn't made.? (If enough members are removed to get it below 100, then it should unlock.)? That could also be the reason that messages to +owner aren't accepted.
?

(I am a member of a group with 102 members, and messages still work.)
?
When was the group created?? That makes a difference.? See /g/GroupManagersForum/wiki/25069 for the whole story.

Re: A Group I'm Subscribed to, is Locked

Andy the bouncy messages were from
mailer-daemon@...
with the subject "failure notice"
And yes, this particular group being locked, blocks owner messages. Which doesn't feel right to me.

But yes, you are right that a group Owner can lock their group any time they want to.? The Owner truly 'owns' (manages) the group and can do that.
?
I am a little surprised if locking a group also blocks emails sent to the groupname+owner address.? I would think that address ought to keep working, but I've been wrong before.

Re: A Group I'm Subscribed to, is Locked

I'm not sure if the group is premium. But it does have more than 100 members and was started in 2022. I hope the owner unlocks the group soon because it's become a very helpful resource for all of us on it.

Re: A Group I'm Subscribed to, is Locked

Just tried to e-mail the group owner, asking when they would unlock the group. Got a Yahoo bouncy message back, reiterating the group was locked. Are group owners supposed to lock groups all of a sudden like this?

There's nothing you can do.? For whatever reason, the group owner has locked the group.? I'd check the group guidelines and the rest of the group to see if there's any notice.? I know of a couple of groups that are locked over the weekend, but unlocked during the week.

Re: A Group I'm Subscribed to, is Locked

Thanks, Duane. It's so frustrating! The lock of this group happend all of a sudden today. Someone wrote an off-guideline post to the group I'm subscribed to, but that was months ago. No mention of group locking in the guidelines, either.

A Group I'm Subscribed to, is Locked

Hi everyone

I tried to post to a group to which I'm subscribed. But I got a Yahoo Mail notice the group is locked and does not allow posting. What can I do?

It does.
?
Sometimes the Wayback Machine does not capture an entire webpage including embedded pictures on the same day, so occasionally one needs to combine more than one captured "snapshot" of a web page to get all its parts.

I doubt that would help much.? Even if they couldn't delete the page, they could delete everything on it as an edit (or several).? You can export the wiki pages, and a lot of other stuff, using the Export Group Data function.
?
BTW, some groups, such as GMF, have a totally public view of the wiki, but I don't know if the Wayback Machine reads them.? That can be set in Admin > Settings > Features in the Wiki Permissions area.

There is the Internet Archive / Wayback Machine (), but it saves only what is public.? My group is not fully public, so the Wiki is not backed up by that site.? There is a chance that any group's Wiki is never public (not visible to non-members).? But don't quote me on that.

There needs to be more settings to prevent any member from deleting everything and never being able to get it back. That¡¯s crazy.?

There already is some protection, in the form of the confirmation before deleting it.? I guess that failed in your case, but don't know why.

Re: Accidental Deletion of a wiki page

Thanks Duane.
I was afraid that was the answer. Then perhaps deleting group content is best left to group owners and moderators and not be considered an ¡°edit¡± when giving permissions to members to create and edit pages.?

So, since anyone can delete pages and content without approval, how do I back up my content and pages?

I know once you put things on the internet for better or for worse, they¡¯re there forever.

I¡¯ll pass it on but a lot of work has gone down the drain.?
