Yahoo group transfer -- how many can I request?
#yahoo
#transfer
Hi,
I just received a notice from Yahoo that they are going to delete all group uploads in mid-December. That appears to cover the email archives as well (I assume that's what "message history" means). I am a leader in a local non-profit that has archives going back to 2012 on two Yahoo groups. We had been using those for reference and assuming they would stick around. I guess not. So I re-read the Easy Group Transfer information. It now states that we have to upgrade to Premium for a year. That is fine. My question is, can I get both of those groups' archives transferred over for the one fee? They both belong to the same organization -- but one is for announcements and the other for discussion. Or do I need to pay the annual fee for each? Thank you, Su |
Al, Can you post a copy of the "notice" here? ? Shal -- Help: /static/help More Help: /g/GroupManagersForum/wiki Even More Help: Search button at the top of Messages list |
Su, My question is, can I get both of those groups' archives transferred over for the one fee? Maybe. If one of the Yahoo groups is logically a subset of the other (all its members are also members of the "primary" group) then you can set up a single Groups.io group, create a subgroup within it, and transfer the primary Yahoo group into the primary Groups.io group, and transfer the smaller membership Yahoo group into the subgroup. I think that would only require upgrading the primary Groups.io group to Premium. Or do I need to pay the annual fee for each? You pre-pay one year of Premium, but at the end of that year you can drop back to a Basic group. So you can treat it as a one-time fee rather than an ongoing expense, if that works for your groups. Yes, that was the notice. Thanks for posting it.
I'll have to think about that. It's a little tricky because we have an active members list which is smaller but also a community of active + alumni members which is of course larger. And not everyone from the first is in the second. Yet they are all connected to the same original group. Making it yet more complicated is that we moved to Google groups a few years ago. I will post separately about that. Thanks! Su |

Note from Yahoo:
Yahoo has announced that they are not going to allow users to upload content the the groups.? Beginning October 21, 2019.? We have until December 14, 2019 to save ALL our posts, photos, etc. before Yahoo removes them.? Read below. ? Understand what's changing in Yahoo GroupsYahoo has made the decision to no longer allow users to upload content to the Yahoo Groups site. Beginning October 21, you won't be able to upload any more content to the site, and as of December 14 all previously posted content on the site will be permanently removed. You'll have until that date to save anything you've uploaded.
The Yahoo Groups site will continue to exist, however, all public groups will be made private or restricted. Any new group members will need to request an invite or be invited by an admin. Admins will still be able to manage various group settings, though some functionality will be limited. On October 21st, you will no longer be able to upload any content to the site. To share info with members of your groups, you'll continue to be able to do so via email. right from the Yahoo Groups site, or you can?. You'll still be able to communicate with your groups via email and search for private groups on the site. In addition, admins will continue to have limited access to group settings and administration tools. That¡¯s about it, group.? I suggest if you want to save any files or photos,? you do that now.? ??? Download a photo:? You SHOULD be able to download a photo by hovering your mouse over the photo and using the download icon (right bottom corner) to download.? THAT DOES NOT WORK FOR ME.? If you figure out how to download a photo, please inform the group. ? ??? Download a file:? Go to the Files section and left click on the file and then navigate to where you want to save the file. |
Judi,
You SHOULD be able to download a photo by hovering your mouse over thePlease inform the Y!GMF group: If you're seeing blank squares where your images should be, welcome to the crowd. This has happened many times over the last few years. In the past these incidents resolved over time and the photos reappeared. Whether that will hold true this time I can't guess. Some messages earlier in GMF indicate that the problem also affects the Easy Group Transfer agent's ability to copy a Yahoo Group's photos as well.
