I have another group.? OScale2railProto48modelers? it was not transfered.? ?I chose the pay first month and then downgrade..? It was a n option at the time.? ?Over a month and nothing!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!? ? I have added the transfer as a member etc.? ?? I have returned emails to the [email protected] nothing happened ..? returned to sender.? ?? This is becoming rediculous.? ?Members of our group have donated donated money to pay for this......? ? What is taking so long??? This is the only place i get any response. Jim Allen |
I am sorry you haven't been able to transfer but I guess you didn't follow instructions.?
You needed to pre-pay for a full year. Have you checked the status of your transfer? Did you ever make the transfer email address a member of your Yahoo Group? Did you promote it to moderator? You should check the status of your transfer, see what the message is. From the FAQ: How do I check the transfer status?
?
Transfers are queued up when you first set it up and processed in that order until you get to Step 5.?
?
At that point they are re-ordered based on when the transfer go-ahead is given and uploaded to groups.io in that order.
?
When you click on the green "Set Up New Transfer" button at bottom left of the Yahoo groups transfer page (/yahootransfer), a new page will come up where you can enter the source and destination group names.?
?
There is also a series of checkboxes for the various areas of the group to transfer (files, photos, members, messages, etc). Simply uncheck the ones you don't want before clicking the "Start New Transfer Process" button.
?
See /g/GroupManagersForum/message/19948
?
(a) If you've already started a transfer:
?
Go to the Yahoo transfer page at /yahootransfer
?
Select the transfer you want to check status on from "Existing Transfers" at lower right (i.e.: click on the name)
?
The box at the top of the resulting page will tell you the status of that transfer.
?
Repeat for any other transfers you may have in progress.
?
?- if the status is the message that starts "Make sure you have sent an invite to your group":
?
This means that Groups.io has not received your invite yet and that you should send another one. They will send you an email once they have received an invite. If this message hasn't been updated within 6 hours of you sending your invite, please send another one. This notice will be updated when they have received your invite.?
?
(b) For transfers that are actually approved and in progress, see where you are in the queue:
?
When you go to edit your transfer, if it's been submitted for transfer, you'll now see one of these 4 status lines:
?
Your group is awaiting export from Yahoo. [Stage 1 of 4]
Your group is being exported from Yahoo right now. [Stage 2 of 4]
Your group is awaiting import into Groups.io. There are about N groups ahead of it in the queue. [Stage 3 of 4] **
Your group is being imported into Groups.io right now. [Stage 4 of 4]
?
** Where N in Stage 3 is an estimate as to where you are in the queue. i.e. Your group is about 70th in the queue right now.
?
Stage 4 is the biggest bottleneck, as only so many groups at a time can be imported without overloading the system. There's no estimate as to how long each group takes to be imported, because each group is different (how many photos, how many messages, etc).
Groups.io is not accepting new transfer requests. Those who have paid but were unable to execute an Easy Group Transfer will issued a refund upon request. Just email Mark at [email protected] and he will refund your money and delete your group.
You can try other approaches to transfer your group - ?See #10 and #14 for other options. /g/GroupManagersForum/wiki/FAQ-on-Moving-from-Yahoo-Groups Frances -- FAQ on Moving from Yahoo Groups GMF Wiki: (unofficial) Help for members (and would-be members) and group managers |

Jim,
There was a explanation provided some time ago. Perhaps you missed it. /g/GroupManagersForum/message/21827 -- Gerald |
at first the transfer was 110? then that all changed.? then there were pay $220 and or pay $20 a month for a year for a total of $240.? ?it was there.??
so if i have to pay the $220 to transfer up front, do i get credit for the 40 i have already paid?? ?it would be nice to be able to just talk to a real person instead of this.? ? i transfered a group before you had to pay..? ?everything went fine. I just need to get it done. help Jim Allen |
You realize that you only have a short time to do something if you wish to rescue your messages from YG.
December 14 is coming soon. The green button on the transfer page is no longer working. The notice says that no more transfers. Focus on that. Find a plan. Ask people what the best easiest way to do it is. What are your tech skills? Do you need step by step instructions? And most importantly, what do you need to rescue? Just your members' email addresses? See the FAQ #10 and #14. Or ask about that. FAQ on Moving from Yahoo Groups I also asked in another email whether you had checked to see the message on the status of your transfer. I guess nothing has happened. You never pulled the trigger to start the transfer. Frances GMF Wiki: (unofficial) Help for members (and would-be members) and group managers |

I have no idea exactly how many groups migrated from Yahoo, but it's a lot. A very significant proportion of those transfers took place after Mark announced the changes to the charging regime. Now the vast majority of those seem to have taken place without their owners and moderators having to submit enquiries here to the Group Managers Forum, but it has to be recognised that queries about the details of the payment were a common theme over the last (say) 6 or 7 weeks. The answer was always the same; it had to be a single payment for "Premium yearly", not a monthly payment plan for 12 months. To elaborate a little further on a point just made, while queries about this were common, there are good grounds for suspecting that this was a problem encountered by just a small proportion of the hundreds (thousands, more like) of transfers that took place without this financial hiccup arising. Now as I am not a moderator of this group I have no idea how long you have been a member of the GMF, but Gerald's post made reference to a post submitted by Bruce on 1st November, which in turn was a response to a query of yours of the same date, so you have been a member for at least 5 weeks. That's 5 weeks during which the need for the transfer payment to be for a single Premium yearly plan popped up moderately often and yet you seem to have never spotted it. Were you not looking at other peoples' queries and the responses to them over that period? There is a lot to be learned from other owners' and moderators' questions and answers, and just focussing on one's own immediate issue can result in missing a lot of potentially useful snippets. Here you seem to have missed the fact that a small number of other transferees had made the same slip as you had; had you spotted them you would have been able to make good the error in time for your transfer to go ahead. I can fully understand your sense of frustration, but I think you ought to realise that a large part of the responsibility for your present predicament lies with you. It certainly does not lie with the GMF or its members; as has been pointed out this is a peer to peer group for Group Managers, not Groups.io Managers.? Chris |
