Who Can View And Modify Databases
That would depend on how the database is set up.? There are several permissions that can be set at that time. /g/GroupManagersForum/wiki/Databases

开云体育I would only like the owner and moderators to create the columns in the databases, but would like the owner, moderator, and members to be able edit the information in the rows. ? In admin/settings/databases, I have it set for Subscribers can view, moderators can create tables. ? At Edit Table/Modify Table of the database I have View Table =Members, Edit Table=Moderator and table owner, Add Rows= Moderator and table owner, Edit Rows=Members . ? Am I accomplishing what I would like to do? ? Don |

Add Rows= Moderator and table owner, Edit Rows=MembersLooks like you're nearly there.? I think you'll want to change that to Add Rows=Members so each member can fill in a row (or more).? Then you'll change Edit Rows to 'Moderators, the Table Owner, and the Row Owner'.? That would allow each member to change their row(s), but no others.? Allowing Members to edit rows will allow them to edit any row, not just theirs. Duane -- Help: /static/help GMF's Wiki: /g/GroupManagersForum/wiki Search button at the top of Messages list |
开云体育Duane, ? Thanks a lot for that information. I made those changes, and we’ll dee how that works. If it doesn’t work right, I can always reload my backup to the dbase. ? Don ? From: [email protected] [mailto:[email protected]] On Behalf Of Duane ? On Thu, Feb 15, 2018 at 04:33 pm, Don wrote:

If you're loading information into the database, then you'll need to set Edit Rows to Members for them to be able to change it, but they will be able to edit any row.? They can only edit rows they've entered with the 'Moderators, the Table Owner, and the Row Owner' choice.? I think you may have an in-between situation that isn't fully covered.

开云体育We have one dbase in particular that I’m usually the only one that keeps it up to date, but I’ve always trusted our members not to mess things up as they edit their information. This dbase holds basic information about our members and their sailboats (We all have the same kind of boats), but over time members sell their boats to other people and leave the group, and usually the new owner becomes a new member of the group. When this happens then some information needs to be updated, and over time even this information needs to be updated again. Updating never really ends unless the boat is destroyed, and when this happens the information becomes archival. ? Back at YG each member had a row of information about themselves they could edit if they wanted, but by default I was the one that generally really did it. I don’t remember having these dbase options at YG, so this is a learning thing for me on how it will work at Groups.io. Since before the transfer to Groups.io some members had left our Y group, but their information stayed so it could be edited in the future as circumstances changed. After the transfer to Groups.io more members dropped out, but new members have joined the group, and some of these members are new owners of boats in the dbase. From what you’ve said it sounds like only I will be able to edit many rows of information, because the original owners that entered the information are no longer members, and new owners will not be edit the information. So maybe I should just let the members view the information, and leave it up to moderators to edit the rows as new information becomes available. ? Don ? |
Unfortunately, there's no way to assign ownership to a row, other than having the member enter it themselves with the 'Moderators, the Table Owner, and the Row Owner' choice set.? That wouldn't work later when another member bought the boat though.? One way to work around that would be to have the new owner enter a new row, then you could delete the old one.? As you mentioned, it might be simpler for you to coordinate it all. ;>)

开云体育Duane, ? Having a new owner enter a new row is an option worth thinking about, so I will. ? I’m going have that same problems with the old member’s photos too…I can see there’s going to be a lot of downloading/uploading going on. ? ? Don ?
