If I click the link at the bottom of an email and follow a topic, isWhat Frances said. Also, the next message you receive in the followed topic will have an unfollow link instead. But if you're a moderator, you may want to see all posts in case some
are worthy of removal or taking other actions against the member posting. If you're a mod and unfollow a topic, you lost that ability to monitor posts by email at least.
