The Transfer
Shadow Grafix
A few days ago, Mark posted that he had over 400 groups waiting to be moved. I would guess that your message was probably received, but with that many groups waiting to be moved, there's just no time to acknowledge every request received.

Stan,
I never got a response that my message was received. Can I just assume they got it? Mark says he set something up to automatically send a message to the Y!Group's -owner address as soon as he receives the Invite. Bottom item here: So have a look in your spam folder or anywhere else an -owner message may have been delivered. That response should happen immediately, whereas the transfer won't actually accept the invitation, and you will not get the "new member" notice, until your turn in the queue. I checked the spam folder and nothing there. I checked the message trash folder and went over my message folder and there is no message. I think I better submit it again. Stan On 2/20/2018 12:22 PM, Shal Farley wrote:

I resent my message to have the group transferred. I used [email protected]. I did this at 1:45pm. It is now about 6:15pm. I have not received a confirmation message and checked my internet provider's spam folder. If this is supposed to be instantaneous, then I am not getting a confirmation.

This just underscores the fact that YG! groups are jumping ship at an
exponentially increasing rate. It will probably get worse. We did ours when it only took a few days start to finish. Now those who didn't see YG! in the decline are in a state of panic. But fortunately there's still time. There is the possibility, of course, that YG! could reverse its decline if Verizon decides to fully fund it. But I personally believe that would just be wishful thinking. I think the wait is worth it even if it takes two weeks to get the group transferred. Donald Amen Donald, My first transfer took a few days and went well. This one has been about 10 days and from my PG Offline download experience I figure it will take few more and know that some things will not transfer. I'm glad to wait.? The other option is to invite the new members to your new Groups.io and then freeze the Verizon/Yahoo Group. I've done this when creating a new Verizon/Yahoo group from the ashes of a failed Verizon/Yahoo group. It takes longer, yet works. In either case, I'm glad I've backed up my groups. Paul, Ohio, USA |
I see we are talking about two different things. In my original message I said

I was clearly talking about the fact that I have no way of knowing if [email protected] had received my message that I was ready to have the group transferred. How my question got interpreted as something related to invitations I do not know. Stan On 2/20/2018 6:28 PM, Duane wrote:

^^Mark says he set something up to automatically send a message to the Y!Group's -owner address as soon as he receives the Invite.^^
I did not receive an automatic acknowledgement that the initial [email protected] invitation was received (sent about 24 hours ago) - and no, it's not in Spam/Junk either. However, I didn't get an error when I sent it (amazing!), my log in the Yahoo Group shows it was sent, an invite to a "test" email was received. I've been assuming it was received and is just in queue - but with Yahoo, I guess all assumptions are rash. Should I wait or re-send? (I do know the whole process is going to take weeks.... my only concern is the fact that apparently we were *supposed* to get an auto-respond.) |
¿ªÔÆÌåÓýIf you started a group on io and later did the transfer from Yahoo would that work? If so, a group could move before the messages have been transferred. Donald |
¿ªÔÆÌåÓýThat's what I did about six months before the actual files transfer.? The only negative is that YG lists members who joined early lost their earlier YG join date, the EGT did not transfer profiles for members who had already joined the list on groups.io For my list that was 200 out of 1600, however none of the 200 complained; but some people value things like seniority. ken "It has always seemed strange to me," said Doc. Barb,
I did not receive an automatic acknowledgement that the initialI would wait. But perhaps send a polite note to [email protected] telling them your Y!Group name and the fact that you did not receive the expected notice. You can cite Mark's message in Beta about it: He knows that some people appear not to receive the notice, but may think they've simply not checked their spam folder. IIRC the Y!Groups -owner forwarding has been known to simply drop some messages, possibly because it thinks they might be spam. There's no way to know when that happens. Donald,
If you started a group on io and later did the transfer from YahooYes. In fact it is required - Step 0. ;-) However, what ken said: when the Y!Group's members are copied in, those email addresses already in the Groups.io group are skipped, so their subscription preferences (individual, digest, etc.) and posting privileges are not copied. Also, message numbers are assigned as the Y!Group messages are copied in, so they will get intermingled with messages being posted in the Groups.io group. Shal,
"However, what ken said: when the Y!Group's members are copied in, those email addresses already in the Groups.io group are skipped, so their subscription preferences (individual, digest, etc.) and posting privileges are not copied." Question. If a member in YG had a No Email preference, and the No Email preference was not allowed in a Groups.io group, what email preferences would the member have after a transfer? Don |
