Subject in subject line and hashtag...
#hashtags
We're just finishing up customizing our site before info is transferred over from Yahoo Groups.
Question:? When creating a new message (New Topic), the member is presented with a template... there is a blank line for the subject, and under that there is a line to select tags. With a few folks playing with the site, I'm finding that: 1. They click on the add tag line first, selecting the tag, and forget about adding a subject line (I'm seeing this happen frequently); then when the message is posted, all you see is the hashtag, no subject--not good :( or 2. They click on the add tag line first, selecting the tag; then they go up and add a subject, not realizing that when they send the message the subject line will show the hashtag first, and the subject second Anyway to add some discipline here (requiring a subject and that it be entered first)???? Hoping above makes sense... |

If your list is not too busy, putting members on moderation may help. In this way you can intercept their wrong messages and send them back with the appropriate instructions. After a couple of messages, even the most stubborn ones understand how it works. If it is of any confort to you, today one of my members posted a message with the correct hashtag but without the # symbol. He did it via mail, I suppose, because if you send a message from the group you can choose from a dropdown menu a set of hashtags with the # symbol. However, the system let the message go through. So, apparently, there is no need to put # before the hashtag. I wanted to kill myself, after all the instructions sent to members on how to use hashtags. Have a nice day, Marina |
Marina,
If it is of any confort to you, today one of my members posted a message with the correct hashtag but without the # symbol. He did it via mail, I suppose, because if you send a message from the group you can choose from a dropdown menu a set of hashtags with the # symbol. Without the # it isn't a hashtag - just a word (or unspaced phrase) in the subject text. So I'm not sure why you're surprised that the message went through.
