#subgroups Can I create an Invisible Subgroup? #subgroups

Bee

Hi, hoping someone can advise ..
I want to create a subgroup purely for myself and my Admin team so that we can discuss group ideas and the day-to-day running of the group without being seen by the other group members.

I do NOT want a message being sent to other group members that I created this subgroup or (preferably) see it listed anywhere, even under the subgroups tab of my group .. if that happens someone WILL try and join it, they always do, LOL! ? Involving time-consuming explanations about why they were rejected etc etc .... a lot easier if they just don¡¯t know about it¡¯s existence!?

Can I do this? ? If so - how??

Any help gratefully received!

Bee.

Probably.? Under the Admin menu on the left, after dropping it down, click Subgroups.? On the page that opens, select Create Subgroup at the top.? After entering the other information, select "Subgroup not listed in parent group, messages viewable by subgroup members only" in the Visibility area.? I haven't tried it, but that should do what you want.? You'd need to do the rest of the setup after creating it.

Keep in mind that creating a subgroup changes the addressing of the main group, so members may be aware that one exists, but won't be able to find it unless they know the name.? See /g/GroupManagersForum/wiki/Why-use-a-Subgroup for additional information.

We had the same issue in our group - we wanted a small, "administrators" group for private conversation. As Duane said, you CAN make this a subgroup, but we elected to have a separate (free) group for this purpose because we felt it was too likely that, being a subgroup *in the same domain*, we might inadvertently send a private message to the whole group! This way we are totally separate and pretty confident we won't mix them up. Our main group is a Premium one, but since there are only 7 people in the Admin group, and we don't need a large amount of file space, that one was set up as a Free group so it did not add to the cost.

Just sharing what our group did for this (and why). I realize we all have different needs and so this might not be best for you.

Thanks for that idea Barb.
I¡¯m trying the sub group idea first - I share a lot of needlework designs with my group and like to run them past the Admin team first so they can pick up on any mistakes or give suggestions etc - that means we¡¯d probably outgrow a free group fairly quickly. ?But I can see the advantage and I will keep the idea in mind!
thanks for replying! ?It¡¯s much appreciated.
