Confused, "export is too small?" - maybe I'm missing something but the export gives you the data in CSV () format so that you can use it any way you want, like import into Excel, etc.? That said, it helps to be familiar with working with CSV data and files.
Unfortunately, the button on GIO generates the content of the CSV file and displays it in the browser, instead of sending you a downloadable file directly.? But (on Windows) you can right-click on the button and select "Save link as..." and then save the file, be sure to change the extension from .txt to .csv.? Then, assuming you have Excel, you can open that file and your data is in a spreadsheet and you can print/format however you want.? The export will work better if you have a lot of data.
Then again - you may have copied/pasted the CSV text from the browser into Word and done an Insert->Table->Convert text to table (Separate text at commas) operation to give you all the data in a Table in Word in (almost) one step.? That works also.
I'll post a comment in the Beta forum to request changing the button to directly generate a downloadable file, or better yet, optionally generate a Excel spreadsheet file.
HTH.? Thanks for this diversion this morning! :)

What constitutes a "downloadable file" depends on browser settings and available browser add-ons. For example, I have the Acrobat Reader add-on installed in my browser so PDF files are displayed...if I didn't have that, it would download the file instead. It is also possible to right-click on anything that displays in the browser (like a CSV file) and do a "save as."

If there's some way to countermand such browser settings on the server side, I'm not aware of it. Even if possible, I think it would be best if groups.io didn't get into the habit of trying to guess what I *really* want to do with the hyperlinked files that I click on.

I'm new to Groups.io and was just starting to look at the database capability. It would be nice to have a "Printable View" of the database. A view that removes the left nav and database controls. It would just print the column names and the data in a nicely formatted manner.

I see there is an Export option. This gives me a CSV format that I could bring into Excel/Google Sheets and use however I'd like. This is good enough for me.

Bruce,? (revisited this from another post)
"downloadable file" depends in large part what the web server sends the browser.? ?In the discussion that follows, this is what happens on Groups.io.
When you click on a PDF file, the server sends a response containing "Content-Type: application/pdf" - if you have a plug in in the browser registered that says "I know what to do with a PDF file, let me handle it", the browser hands it off to the PDF viewer.
When you click on a DOC file, the server sends "Content-Disposition: attachment; Content-Type: application/msword" and as I have no plugin to view "msword", the browser brings up the "Save As..." dialog to save the attachment.
When you click the Export database button though, the server sends a standard html page with "Content-Type: text/plain" - the browser does not receive anything that it could interpret as a "file", only text to be displayed.? So the onus is on the user to take that text and massage it into some other format such as a document, spreadsheet, whatever.? Fortunately the text is in CSV format so turning that raw text into a structured file is pretty straightforward.
My then is to enhance the Export function to generate and send an actual "file" rather than display the text in a browser window (which becomes cumbersome or even impossible on large databases).
Thanks
Toby
