Replace Moderator
I have searched but cannot find an answer to my question.? Please excuse me if it is there and I missed it.
The moderator of OTRonPando recently passed away.? There appears to be no co-moderator.? How do we go about getting moderators to replace the deceased moderator?? This would seem to be the same case as a mod who has abandoned the group. Thanks - River |
It looks like I mixed terms here.? I am looking to change the group owner - not moderator. On Sat, May 26, 2018 at 7:53 AM, <qy3bg75@...> wrote: I have searched but cannot find an answer to my question.? Please excuse me if it is there and I missed it. |
As far as I know, there is no set procedure in place.? There has been some discussion about it on the beta group (search for "missing owner".)? Your best bet would likely be to contact [email protected], including as much information as you can to see if they can (or will) do anything.

River's post points up a REAL PROBLEM for those groups who have only one Owner. If your group is one of them, I recommend that you remedy that immediately. There is always a chance that some rogue subscriber will lie to support about a dead (or simply inactive) owner in an attempt to take over a group. I'm not saying that River is one of them...but believe me, it happens. Groups.io management cannot get in the middle of this, or spend time chasing down group ownership issues on a regular basis. It may not even be legal from them to do so. I'm very interested in what the response from support will be. Please be prepared for the possibility that you may have to start a new group from scratch. Some years ago I ran into a similar situation with a Yahoo group when the owner either passed or abandoned the group. Luckily I was a moderator with limited level of authorizations. I had a long dialog with Yahoogroups support people and they raised my authorizations to maximum level but refused to change me to owner. The group has still remained active. I have recently succeeded in moving it to groups.io.? Today Yahoo has no any support for their groups and so above is no longer an option. If ypou are not a moderator the only method could be that you create a new group and ask members of your Yahoo group to join it. Files and photos can be moved manually by the members who had added them. They can also be moved by you but will get listed under your profile.? Prasad

¿ªÔÆÌåÓý¡°Files and photos can be moved manually by the members who had added them. They can also be moved by you but will get listed under your profile.¡± ? I did the same thing as you, and the ownership of the files changed to me also, since I was the one that uploaded them to our new groups.io group. So that the original creators of the files got their credit for the files I uploaded, I added their name to the description of each file that I could find an owner of. An example would be ¡°Ahoy For Projects by David & Carol Sibley¡±. ? Photos was a different story, since our members can make their own Photo Albums. For the most part albums made by past members that were not current members of the new site, were either assigned to the owner of the group (Me), or had no ownership at all, but as the group owner I could still control the album. There were a few albums, where the owners of the albums transferred to the new group, but lost ownership of their albums in the new group. In those cases the album owners had to download all they wanted out of their album, then make a new album to upload their things into, after I deleted their old album. It was done that way, so the naming convention of the albums stayed in alphabetical order. I still have members that have albums they never took ownership of to date (They¡¯ve been alerted to this situation a couple of times), so I imagine when they finally get around to wanting to do something with their albums they¡¯ll be notifying me of their problem. ?
