re mail delays and non delivery
¿ªÔÆÌåÓýI am getting a little frustrated... last night I sent an email to
my own group and it was delayed 14 hours, yet another I sent a few minutes later
came in almost immediately. ? Another one sent at the same time was returned to me with this
message.. The following message to
<[email protected]> was
undeliverable.
The reason for the problem: 5.3.0 - Other mail system problem 500-'This message contains an executable attachment, which is not permitted.' It definitely DIDN¡¯T contain an exe file, it was a zipped
file of a Photoshop brush which is an .abr file.
However I am assuming that this one was
from my ISP because it came from here
"Mail Delivery System" MAILER-DAEMON@...
I expect this is something I will have to take up with them.
?
A short time ago, I sent 3 emails to my group, 2 were delivered
immediately, 25 minutes later I am still waiting for the third.
I have noticed that the delayed ones have attachments.
?
Because I post several emails to my group every day, is there any way to
¡°whitelist¡± myself so there isn¡¯t any possibility of being seen as spam?
?
Thanks

Any good mail filter will not necessary rely on the file extension as the sole basis for a trojan alert. Without going into details, it occasionally happens that the zip compression algorithm introduces a sequence of hex characters that looks like executable code. You might have more luck sending the file uncompressed.
Many people's email accounts end up spoofed and/or hijacked. So there is unlikely to be any way to whitelist yourself...otherwise the spammers would all do it. Bottom line is that we all have to live with the occasional false alarm. Bruce |
I'd use the View Source for the messages to see what the headers have to say.? You can follow through them when it was received at various steps to determine where the delay is coming from.
Just a thought - Was your ZIP a self extracting file?? That could be considered an executable file type. Duane -- Help: /static/help GMF's Wiki: /g/GroupManagersForum/wiki Search button at the top of Messages list |
¿ªÔÆÌåÓýActually I realised that the email I mentioned never appeared at
all, I resent it 14 hours after it went the first time.... and it arrived
pretty well instantly.
Same thing has happened with the other one I mentioned last night (I said I
was waiting for it, at 25 minutes)... it still hasn¡¯t arrived 10 hours later.
?
re the other problem about the refused email... no, it wasn¡¯t a self
extracting zip.
I¡¯ll try sending it unzipped, or I¡¯ll upload it and send the link to my
group.
Thanks
