re deleting photos

开云体育

Back at the end of May we had a discussion about my problem when deleting photos, that the one I clicked to select didn’t open up, but the next one or even further along opened instead.

I hoped at the time it was a temporary glitch but I just tried again and it is exactly the same, so I have sent it on to Mark.

?

This question I am asking may be the result of deleting photos…

Now that the search function is fixed, I have been looking at some of the old messages and see at the bottom of some “edited on such and such a date”.

?

?

As I would not have been editing these messages at all, I am assuming that I must have deleted the photo which had been inserted or attached to that message as there is no longer any image in the body of the message… is this assumption correct? Or is there some other reason?

?

Thanks

Win

It's not a temporary glitch.

Your browser is caching the thumbnail page, and is therefore displaying a [nonexistent] thumbnail of the image you just deleted.?Try refreshing that page (ctrl-F5) before selecting the next image to delete.

Groups.io can force that page to load from server every time -- which should fix your problem -- but that also means that it will take a performance hit for everyone who is NOT attempting to delete any photos. Which approach is the lesser of two evils is difficult to say.

Bruce, the problem which was irking me is that when I select a photo to delete, that particular photo doesn’t open up, it is the next one? or the one after which opens and I have to use the white “back arrow” at the side to get to the one I want.

Your reply addresses the part of my original queries about the blank grey square after deletion, thanks for that.

The main query in my email was about the “edited on…” notice at the bottom of the emails.

Thanks

Win,

Yes, that is a result of removing their attachments. If it were done through the Messages page it would result in a notice being sent to the posting member showing the edit. Being done through the Emailed Photos album no notice is sent, last time I heard.

I’ve been noticing that situation too, where the picture I clicked on in an album was not the one that opened, but a picture before or after the one I clicked on.

Don, I’ve sent it to Mark, if there is a solution, I’ll post it when I hear back.

I feel that this takes us right back to the original query; does this problem manifest irrespective of the location of the photos in question, i.e. are they in Albums or Emailed Photos or both?

I have done some not wholly exhaustive tests this morning and while I am not going to claim that it is not a "cache" issue I would argue that that is not the whole story.

I have found that photos in Albums and those in Emailed Photos seem to behave differently, and that it is a function of the Display / Sort Order chosen by the individual user, and I think that it all goes back to when Mark changed the default order to Sort By Posted∧. For those of use that had set up our Photo Albums to work alphanumerically this made it necessary to change the Album setting to Sort by Title∧ and the album contents to Sort by Name∧.?This made "albums" work again, but because these settings are Account Wide (and thus Group Wide) it meant that within Emailed Photos the sort order became by Name, not Posting Date.?

At this point the two different "types" of photo differ in thier behaviour; in "proper" photo albums clicking on a thumbnail seems to bring up the correct photo irrespective of the chosen sort order, but that is not true for Emailed Photos; clicking on a thumbnail in Emailed Photos only brings up the correct photo if the Sort Order is Sort by Posted∧,.but as mentioned above if Sort by Name is selected for other Albums then the same setting will be forced on Emailed Photos.

IMHO it would be far better if Sort by Title / Name was an option only for Albums, leaving Emailed Photos as Sort by Posted.

I hope the above makes sense... :)

An interesting concept… BUT… my problem IS in Emailed Photos… and it IS set to “sort by posted”, and I don’t get the correct photo when clicking on a thumbnail.

This issue of the wrong picture being displayed in a Photo Album, when clicking on the thumbnail of a particular picture in that album, does not appear to happen all the time for me. When it does happen, I have to click on one or two pictures on either side of the one I want to display the right one. I have not experienced that issue in Emailed Photos to date. Sort order inside a Photo Album should not make a difference, in displaying the correct picture linked to the thumbnail in that album.

?

When I notice this issue happen again, I will spend more time trying to analyze what is happening.

I believe at least part of the source of the problem is that there aren't permalinks to photos.? In any album, when a photo is deleted, the "link" to others may change.? For example, if there are 5 photos, they're labeled as /g/groupname/photo/album#/0 through /g/groupname/photo/album#/4.? By deleting #2, they're renumbered as 0-3, so #4 becomes #3.? The ?p= after the initial part of the link should go to the correct one, but doesn't always do it properly.

Since that is the way it works, the next time I find this situation in a member’s photo album, I’ll take a look at all of their activity concerning their album. If I can’t find any deletion of pictures in that member’s album (only additions), but the issue still exists, I guess I’ll be back for more ideas about this.

I found a photo album with five pictures in it (All .jpgs), and while the first three thumbnails in the album work as expected, the last two thumbnails do not. Clicking on either one of the last two thumbnails, brings up the opposite larger picture.

Don,

If you are deleting pictures, it is not unusual to see this. Try refreshing your browser. That should sort out the issue.

I probably should have started a new thread, but since there is more to this situation I’ve talked about on this thread, if anyone would read what the whole thread they would understand more about what I have been experiencing. I’m not trying to delete any pictures in any member albums, but I have been noticing a strange thing that is happening in a few albums. I know about refreshing the browser, and that doesn’t do anything or have anything to do with this situation. It’s still a mystery I’m trying to understand.
