I'm seeing something in the beta thread about Google calendaring somehow sending an auto-email so the GIO calendar syncs, but I still don't see how the OP could have sent an email using her Thunderbird client to set up a birthday event. ? You just create a calendar event in your mail client and then go through the process of adding invitees to it.? Just enter the group email address as the contact details for the invitee and then send the invite.? The invite message reaches the group with an ICS file attached so may be moderated depending upon group settings.? Once the message is approved, details are added to the group calendar.
