Premium Group?

Richard

Greetings,

I am the owner of [email protected]?and, as with many folks, having trouble getting my previous groups Genealogical Brickwalls@...?transferred to groups.io. ?The Yahoo group has 1,470 members.

The [email protected]?has been made Premium to facilitate the transfer from Yahoo. I chose the $20/moth Premium option. ?I have been told that to actually get the group transferred I must pay the full $220 instead of the $20/month.
?
Can anyone tell me, with certainty, if the $220 is required to make the transfer happen?

I would tell you that I have carefully followed all of the other directions but have not received a confirmation from groups.io that they have received my transfer request.

Yes.? Until you upgrade to annual, nothing will proceed.

Given that this problem keeps arising I went and had a look at the published instructions, and I can sort of see why people get it wrong.

Step one of the transfer process reads Create your new Groups.io group and upgrade it to premium for a year. Although I know what it means, that is in part down to hindsight; it is arguably not entirely clear. (Most of the groups of which I am a member migrated long before charging for a transfer was introduced.)

Step 5 of the process has what is almost an afterthought to it, reading Your group must be signed up for the Premium Yearly plan.?(Original in bold)?

On the one hand that statement ought to remove any ambiguity left over after step one; at the same time it really ought to have beeen included as an integral part of step 1. On the other hand I would have thought that prospective refugees would have read all the instructions before starting.

I do sometimes think that some of the "stuff" that comes out from Groups.io HQ is not as clear as it might be. The original emails that were sent out when members were removed for marking a message as spam were a couple that I encountered very early on.

Chris

I added the bracketed sentence to the GMF transfer instructions and to the FAQ:

Transfers require pre-payment of an upgrade of the group to the Premium Yearly or Enterprise plan. (You cannot be on a month-to-month payment plan.)
