Can anyone recall when it was that Mark announced the new format of banner at the top of each Album in Photos sections? I've had a search but couldn't find his announcement.
They ought to look very nice but the effect can be spoiled by using too long a title (for some value of "too long") and anything typed into the "description" field can also creep into the Album Title. I'm tempted to suggest a reduction in the font size used for the (actual) title to make it more tolerant of longer titles and for the contents of the "description" field to be kept out of the banner photo completely. I believe that was on Sept 28:

Trouble is neither the "intended" title nor the description needs to be of novella proportions for things to start looking wrong. As a purely personal opinion I am not certain that album descriptions are as useful as explanatory text appended to individual photographs. Those without the authorisation to Edit cannot see the (full) description field, only that part of the description that creeps into the banner at the top, so at the moment it is a bit of a muddle. I got a reply from Mark yesterday and the available text area has been expanded.? Through some testing, it appears that about 800-1000 characters (5 lines) can be made visible, depending on the size of the monitor, so one of mine still doesn't fit.? My group is plain text, so not sure if it would be the same for groups that allow html.? I suggested that he limit the amount of text that can be entered, but that may be down the road, if at all.

I have had a quick look round some or our albums and I'm not sure that I can spot any difference. I found the other day that omitting a Title (to accommodate more lines from Description) is not allowable (no great surprise there!) so the "5 lines" that you quoted will be subject to how many line the title occupies. did he say when this was done?First change was on Wednesday, then tweaked yesterday.? The description area is now almost all the way across the banner for me.? I didn't even think about having several lines for the title.? The ones I still have a problem with are one line there and 5 for the description.? I've contacted the posters and asked them to cut down the description some.? BTW, these are continuous lines.? Not sure what happens if there are several short lines used. Not sure what happens if there are several short lines used. The same thing as happens with descriptive text added for individual photos within an album. Any "return" inserted by the originator is ignored and what started on a different line is added to the line above so that it is displayed as line of text until the management software decides that it needs to insert a return of its own because it has filled up the designated width available. That doesn't read all that cleanly but I think the meaning is clear enough. I hope... Chris |
