Only Daylight Time? #timezone

When setting up my new account the timezones don't include DT and ST options. For example, Eastern (US) Time only lists EDT, but EDT ended several days ago. For repeating events or for events created on one side the DT/ST switch that occur on the other side, this can cause problem.

So I can use CDT, but then when we actually go back to DT, I'll have to change to EDT.?

I've never seen a time zone list that doesn't take care of DT and ST.

Eric,

I also find the timezone naming confusing.

However, it does seem to work if you just ignore where it says DT and the UTC offset. At least, mine says UTC-3 ADT and yet it is displaying my correct time now.

I think it may be that the intention of the label was to identify the timezone and whether or not daylight savings? is used for that timezone. Either that or the labels were supposed to change to reflect when DST ended, but that didn't happen.

I assume from your post that you are in Eastern timezone. Set your choice to Eastern Time. While it says something about EDT, you can check and see that your display time is actually correct. With the change to EDT in the spring, you won't have to change your preference.

It is a bit confusing because of all the time zones around the world and whether they observe daylight saving time, along with the different dates that it starts and ends.? By selecting Eastern time with EDT at the end, you'll have the correct one and it will adjust as needed.

Thanks for clarifying that. FL moved to standard time and voted to not return to DST so we will remain on EST when the 2020 time change to DST rolls around.?

The articles I could find all say that FL passed a state law to stay on DST year round, but can't unless federal law is changed.? I guess we wait to see what really happens. ;>)

Sandi?
First, the 2018 Florida bill was to STAY On Daylight Savings time year round. ? Not stay on EST. But it was not approved by Congress. So yes, Floridians will continue to change clocks.?

This is a little complicated as to which states have passed what but bottom line is Congress must approve any changes. Which doesn’t look likely soon as far as I can tell. For one thing it would be a nightmare for businesses to have a nationwide checkerboard of times to deal with.?

Here’s a recent short article

We could have the same time nation-wide and then businesses could adjust their hours of 0peration <g>, just kidding of course.? I realize this isn't actually doable, but it's fun to think about.

Another bubble bursted!?Disappointing.?Our local 5pm news reported last Saturday it was the "last time" we would have to change our clocks. Guess I heard what my brain wanted to hear.?

I have no firm feelings which time zone we stay in, either one or the other. Just not this twice a year switching.?There's another push in FL now to keep us on Standard Time but that's not as popular.?Like you said, it's a wait and see game.?

Hi Sandi,

?

From what I have read the only time a state can opt to stay on is Standard Time. Staying on Daylight Savings Time requires the U.S. Congress to pass a law allowing that and Congress hasn't done anything for years.
