One of my moderators needs help! She can't post anymore to the group after we close it on weekends.
This is what my moderator sent to me, below. Yes, she is listed as a moderator as "Posting always allowed". Please help me help her!! She states her problem in four steps: 1) I used to be able to respond to posts after the group closed on Saturdays for our two day break, and the response would go to group. ? 2) But for many months now, I haven¡¯t been able to respond to the group! 3) Instead, it will only respond as a "private message", which then starts a conversation through my private email. ? 4) I¡¯m not trying to private message!!? It's the only option available, and I can't find anything in settings that would change it.? HOW as owner do I help undo this problem she has as a moderator?? |
Here's what one of my moderators explained to me in four key points. It's the only option available to me. 4) I can't find anything in settings to change this problem.? Help! How do I help her undo this mess she's in? Mod's note: ?Merged this as a follow-up to her original email.? |
Have you checked the moderator permissions for this person?
?
Moderator Permissions
Approve Pending Messages Edit Archives Invite Members Create or Modify Hashtags Manage Subgroups Add or Modify Integrations Modify Group Settings Manage Paid Subscriptions/Donations Billing View Member List Approve Pending Members (also allows access to the member list) Ban Members (also allows access to the member list) Set Member Subscription Options (also allows access to the member list) Set Moderator Privileges (also allows access to the member list and allows setting member subscription options) Remove Members (also allows access to the member list) ?
?
Secondly, have you checked the moderator's record, including activity history and Email Delivery History?
Go to Admin, Members, choose the member (or filter to find her), then use the dropdown menu under Membership.?

?
If so, she should still be able to post. If you're doing something else, probably not.

Moderator Permissions.? To Frances, yes I have looked at Moderator permissions. But there is nothing there to give her permission to post to the group after it's closed. She is always forced to do private messaging to her private email, which she hates. Conversely, I see nothing under Moderator permissions that forces her to use private messaging. If I am missing something as to what you are seeing that I am not, please educate me.? Second, can you please educate me what difference it will make to check her record, activity history, and email delivery history?? I did recently see that she replied to someone, but was forced to use private messaging.? |

Use Filter to find moderators. See whether that member is a moderator or not.
Click on that moderator's name to open her record.
There is a blue menu item Membership. Click to open Activity History, Email Delivery History.
?
Also you can go to Admin, Activity and look for "xxxx@xx changed group settings via web" - in Activity History. That should track who changes the group to Announcement-Only and when.

?
Is the member writing from her own email account or writing on the group homepage?
?
If she is writing from the group homepage, she can look at the menu and see Mod written in blue beside Home.
?
I wonder whether your member is using her correct email address, the address with her moderator status. It is possible she has two accounts.

My mods confirmed that when the group is closed for two days, they use Announcements Only. So here I have one of the Mods who is definitely shown as a Mod, and shown to be able to post at any time, but after the group is closed with Announcements Only, she still can't give a reply to someone in the group. It turns into a Private Message to her private email. It didn't use to be that way.? Ideas?? |

When the group is set to Announcement Only, you can't reply to someone on the group.? A mod can post or reply to the group, but not reply to an individual's message.

Your previous messages said she was trying to write to just one member. You wrote: "after the group is closed with Announcements Only, she still can't give a reply to someone in the group. It turns into a Private Message to her private email. It didn't use to be that way."
?
Can your member please tell us exactly what she does?
When I go to my test announcement group, I open a message from another member. I click to reply. The To automatically changes to Sender - i.e. the member who wrote the message.
And it goes through Groups.io. I can see it in Activity.
?
There is another way to write to an individual member and that is using Message in the User Details page, scroll to the bottom.
?
I don't see how it flips to her personal email, out of Groups.io. ?Since it is the weekend coming up, perhaps she can test emailing you from the group and make a list of the steps she takes.

is the lone mod in a different time zone?
?
Second you said after the weekend closure. Is that really what you mean? ?After the group is taken out of announcement mode and put back to regular mode that this individual has a problem?
