Good Evening,
I have just moved over from Rootsweb and it's a massive learning curve. However, I am in love with groups.io. I have had a quick search but can't find what I need. 1. A member has asked about replying when he is on summary mode...."Do not reply to this email. To ... reply to a topic click the subject." But then couldn't see any obvious Reply button."?I note that some of my membership are showing as Summary and some as?Summary [R]? please could someone explain the difference and how the subscriber replies to messages from summary (not that I really understand how he can see what he is replying to from summary mode) 2. A member has reported regarding posting an image that "it only seems to accept jpgs, as I found when I tried a bmp [no error message, just nothing happens]" again I could find nothing about image types that would be accepted and which (if any) would not.? Many thanks for any support you can offer and apologies for the fact you have probably already answered these questions a million times. Best wishes, Sherry Landa Co-owner of [email protected] |
Sherry,
1. A member has asked about replying when he is on summary mode...When you click on the Subject of an item in the Daily Summary that's a link that takes you to that Topic in the group's Messages section. What does the member see? If the member can see the messages but can't see the Reply link in the bar under each message that tells me two things: 1) your group's messages are public, and 2) the member is not logged in to Groups.io or is logged in with an address that is not subscribed to your group. Have the member look at the text at the very bottom of the Daily Summary. It will say "you are subscribed to ... via (his email address here)". The email address shown when logged in must match the subscribed address. (screenshot here: /g/GroupManagersForum/message/27062 ) If the member sees your home page or something else, same answer: he is not logged in or is logged in with a non-subscribed email address; but your group does not show messages to non-members. I note that some of my membership are showing as *Summary* and some asAn R in a blue box means that the member has selected "Auto Follow Replies" in the Advanced Preferences section of his/her Subscription. That feature is intended for use with Individual or Digest delivery, I don't think it has any effect when used with Daily Summary. /g/GroupManagersForum/wiki/Status-Badges-in-the-Members-List 2. A member has reported regarding posting an image that "it onlyAs far as I know any type would be accepted, but it may depend on how the member posts the message (via his/her email interface, or via the group's interface) and how one views the resulting message. I haven't tried BMP, but it (like TIFF) has a lot of variations and are sometimes very large files. I've used JPG (for images) and PNG (for screenshots and drawings); both are much more standardized and typically more compact. This topic has reminded me to ask about the best way to share pictures in Gio.? On a Yahoo group that I used to belong to when someone took a lot of pictures at an event they usually got put in an album.? I have not seem any mention? of albums here since I started following.??
?
There were always problems popping up on Yahoo with people being able to see both albums and individual pictures, often tied to what mail handler ws being used.? I can see a roll for both situations in the group I'm setting up.? We have a quilters group here and someone might want to post a picture of their latest creation either to the quilters subgroup or the whole facility,? perhaps as a way to solicit more quilters.? At a party someone might take a whole batch of pictures that someone might want to access with as few clicks as possible.? What are the recommended ways of handing both of these situations in Gio?
?

June,
1. Login and go to your groups webpage on GroupsIO 2. On the left column click on PHOTOS 3. On that page at the top should be a bottom to click on NEW ALBUM 4. Enter the name for the album. 5. Enter the description field 6. Drag and drop photos.? (sometimes a bunch would work, else you got to do one-by-one.? Not sure what the reasoning behind that is.) BMaverick |

Thanks, Maverick.? Can this be done at the main group level only or can Albums be created at the sub-group level as well?? I'm presuming from what you wrote that any member of the appropriate group can create an album. I don't expect most of my members to be using anything other than email, they're not very tech savvy, so I'm guessing that I will end up having to create any albums regardless of who takes the pictures. The only qualifier is that all subgroup members must be members of the main group.? Otherwise, they mostly have all the same options, such as Files, Photos, etc. One word of warning:? It's best not to use a direct link to a photo within an album.? It would look something like /g/GROUPNAME/photo/233654/1, but? the 1 on the end can change if other photos are added or removed.? There are requests in to make these links static, but we don't know when or if that will happen.? Best to point to the album, /g/GROUPNAME/album?id=233654, and describe the photo, by name it's a good one. June,
The MAIN Group has messages, files and photo sections. SUB-Groups have their OWN messages, files and photo sections. Now, with that said, any owner or moderator can turn on or off those functions for either the MAIN or for SUB-Groups. When I created our first sub-groups, I have to understand that whilst in the sub-groups, all the tools on the left column were only applied to the sub-groups.? The very top of the screen blue bar that says, "Your Groups" is the way I toggle between the MAIN and any of the sub-groups under the MAIN.?? It best to know at what level you are working at and how to leave and enter any other level. For my group, we have a few groups that were related to our MAIN on Yahoo.? Thus, The primary group became our MAIN on GroupsIO and all of the 4 related groups became sub-groups.? I'm rolling over the sub-groups to basically be the archive from Yahoo.? Read-only for sub-groups.? Members can even download the files and photos too as read-only.? The main group going forward will have everything combined.? GroupsIO is VERY FLEXIBLE to meet all kinds of needs.? Yet, there is some deep thought into all of this to keep it simple for non-computer geeks like me. haha BMaverick |
