new group creation

I am attempting to create a new group and for some reason groups.io won't
accept Miami-County-Indiana-Freecycle. Is it the hyphens that's the
problem? I've used hyphens in other groups I've created, so I don't know
what's going on here. Any thoughts/suggestions?

Judy,

There was a problem with either underscores or hyphens or both a while
back. When I used one of those in a group name I couldn't reply by
email. I wrote support and they found a glitch. The workaround was to
not use them, so I changed the group's name and there are no hyphens
or dashes in the name now, and I can post and reply from email instead
of being forced to do so from the site.

My guess is that they made it impossible to set up a group that uses
those so that the members don't see the same issues as I did.

Donald, Judy,

It was underscores, not hyphens. The situation came about with groups with subgroups - the group name gets used as a "subdomain" aka "hostname" in the email address and the web address. Underscore is not a legal character there.

That they did, but it doesn't seem to relate directly to Judy's case. The name she's trying to use is 30 characters long, it is possible that Mark implemented a shorter limit for some reason.

There was a group created on 5/23 where the name is 32 characters long, so I don't think it's length. Unless there's a space sneaking in or some other character it doesn't like, this sounds like a question for Support.
