My Owner/Moderator Status changed to Member Status . . . .

Gentle GMF Members,

I logged into Groups.io just now and found that I am no longer Owner of my IO group and thus have no access.

What would cause that to happen? I haven't changed anything except for my Display Name, and that was done several days ago.

How can I resolve this and recover the ownership of my group? (I was the only Owner but there were two other Moderators. Also the group is inactive right now with only moderators allowed to post.)

Very strange!

I see that you have an AOL email address. AOL is notorious for their feedback loop mechanism for spam filtering and may have flagged a GIO message as spam. Check your spam folder for any group messages and also look for any messages asking you to click on a link to resub. Click on that and you will be reinstated immediately...otherwise you may have to contact [email protected]?for assistance.

I highly recommend that you set up a reliable second person with Group Owner status so you have someone to troubleshoot this problem if it ever recurs. Another option is to get yourself a second email address (from GMail or some such) and make that address an Owner so you have something to fall back on.

Good luck,
Bruce

Are you sure you logged in with the same email address as the one that owns the group?

In Groups.io each subscription email address is its own account ID, so group subscriptions you have under one email address do not carry over to other email addresses you may have.

If you can find evidence of which email address of yours owns the group, try logging out and then logging in with that email address.

There is a check in the system so the last owner can't be removed, even if there are other moderators.? I tried it and it works.

Does it work in the "flagged as spam" situation?

That's a scenario that's kinda difficult to test proactively...

OK Shal, Bruce, Duane ¨C As I mentioned previously, when I re-subscribed using the blue 'JOIN" button on my CRL (IO) Homepage I received a message in my AOL inbox telling me (me, apparently as Owner/Moderator) that there was a new member who had just joined (=me).

So, by my above remarks, I am apprently still Owner/Moderator in the IO bowels somewhere due to having received that new member alert (addressed to . But of couse I am not recognized on the Groups.io CRL Homepage as Owner/Moderator nor do I have Admin access when visiting there.

And I did check the spam folder of my AOL addy and the same in my Gmail spam folder; nothing showed up in either spam folder.

So if at this point it's advisable that I contact IO Support is there any specific person there to whom I should address this problem I'm having?

TIA,

That message should have cited the email address of the person that joined. Was it your AOL address?

It tells us that the system still has your subscription under that AOL address listed as owner or moderator.

If you hover over or click on your name in the upper right corner, what email address is shown?

If it is not your AOL email address select Logout. Then log in again, this time using your AOL address to log in.

Not until we've verified that your problem isn't simply a matter of mistakenly logging in to Groups.io using the wrong email address.

You can address your support inquiry to Mark, but it doesn't really matter if you address it to a specific person or not.
