moving from subgroup to main group #transfer #howto

When we did our transfer, we ended up with messages and files from our main group moved into a subgroup.? The main group is members.. everyone is a member.? The sub group is membership and is a committee that vets members to make sure they are people that should be in the membership (we are a non-profit and require a donation to be in the communications area).? So, members can no longer access messages or files that were in the yahoo group for them.? I can see how the mistake was made but cannot get any answer as to how to rectify it.? We did NOT move anything from membership over as the person who had originally started that particular committee yahoo group has since died and no one could give moderator status to move it, so everything that is the membership group should go back to the members group.

Are there still files that were pulled from yahoo that could be reloaded to the members group and just delete all of the old things from membership?? What can I do to facilitate this?

I can tell you that Groups.io essentially copies the messages, etc. from your Yahoo Group. Unless you deleted your Yahoo Group, everything should still be there.

You can contact support to see if they'll offer any assistance.? I wouldn't expect much since it was the person requesting the transfer that did it incorrectly.? However, you may be able to do a second transfer to get the information into the main group, but it will be up to you to get rid of it in the subgroup.

You can easily verify that the Yahoo content is still there.

In that case, simply start another transfer of the main Yahoo content to the main (parent) groups.io group. Create a new GIO subgroup (with a different temporary name), and transfer the Yahoo subcommittee content to the new GIO subgroup. After you have verified that the new content is complete and correct, delete the current committee subgroup (remember to change its name to a unique random string first), and then rename the temporary subcommittee subgroup to its desired original name.

Should work but don't wait too long.

I cannot start a new transfer.. I get this error message:
That Yahoo Group is already a part of another transfer.
I've written Mark directly with no answer.? ?Is there another number for "support"?
I'm fine with deleting the subgroup if I could get the information into the main group.

Eva -- You have to delete the transfer that is already completed before you can transfer that group again.?

You'll need to remove the previous (completed) transfer from the list.? If you don't see it, then you need to find the person that did the transfer and have them remove it.

Support is intended for bug reports (or possibly tech problems) and there's a serious backlog right now.? General questions about operation are deflected to GMF or Group_Help which are user-to-user groups.

Eva,

I cannot start a new transfer.. I get this error message:
That Yahoo Group is already a part of another transfer.
Have you resolved this yet?

As Bruce and Duane mentioned, that prior (or current) transfer must be deleted before you can start a new one from that Yahoo Group.

That could have been yourself, yourself logged in using a different email address, or someone else. If you can't figure out who it is, then only support can help you.

I've written Mark directly with no answer.
I'm not sure what you mean by "directly", but if you have already upgraded your destination Group to Premium Yearly then you should receive priority response from [email protected]. But even so it may be a while, as there's apparently quite a backlog.

I'm fine with deleting the subgroup if I could get the information
into the main group.
I don't see how that could be helpful.

You should target the transfer for whichever Groups.io primary or subgroup you intend to contain the content of the Yahoo Group - there's no easy way to move content between groups and/or subgroups.
