Member Reports Inability To Add Photo Album

We checked the URL and it wasn't right so I had him do a virus scan and check for any new programs installed he might not know about. Observe thread please :

/g/TestgearNotTekScopes/topic/option_to_add_photos/20766285?p=,,,20,0,0,0::recentpostdate%2Fsticky,,,20,2,0,20766285

What could be the problem ? I am not knowledgeable about this type of software so I don't know if the guy's PC has some bug in it or if I set the settings wrong. They are mostly at default. I tried to allow as much as possible, except for embedding images in posts. There has been some discussion of that and I am not sure I want to do it. If it fixes the problem I might though, I want that ability on the group. I mean I want the gallery, and I have told people to try to name it right. But he doesn't get the button at all, and has the URL the button sends him to. Another member has also reported this in that thread. I never saw that URL.

Any help is appreciated. Thanks.

On the Settings page, scroll down to the Features section, then find the Photos area.? Make sure Permissions is set to "Subscribers can view and upload".? I suspect you have it set to "Subscribers can view, moderators can upload".

Sorry I forgot to reply to say it worked. Thanks.

A member of my group reported the same problem.? She doesn't see the Add photos button at all.

I checked the Settings and I had already set it to allow subscribers to view and upload.? There are two other groups which I co-moderate.? My member belongs to these groups and can't upload photos there, either.? I didn't have access to the settings to check on permissions, but did confirm that I see the add photos buttons for both.

I then checked the photos page for this moderator group.? I do not see an add photos button.? Are members of this group supposed to have permission to upload photos?? Is this group the right place to report a possible bug?

When you go to the Photos page, all you'll see will be the existing albums and a New Album button.? Once you're in an album (or have just created one), you should have the Add Photos button (along with Edit Album and possibly Delete Album.)? You can't upload photos to the main page, so no add button there.

Duane,

I understand about no add button in the main page of the photos page.? My member was inside an album at the time and there was no add photos button.? I was also inside the photo album for this group (GroupManagersForum) when I saw there was no add photo button.

My member was able to create an album and add a photo to it, but not to open an existing album and add a photo.? Are albums ported over from Yahoo somehow closed?? The groups I am talking about were all transferred over this week.

I did check to make sure my members have permission to upload and view photos.? I do not have access to the Admin settings for the groups I co-moderate.

Duane,

I attached a picture of what I see inside the photo album for this group.? No Add Photos button is available.?

Should I have created a new album for my picture instead?

Well there's your problem: you're in the Emailed Photos album. That's a special album that is only for photos that arrived by email.

Should I have created a new album for my picture instead?
In this case, yes.

Shal,

I didn't notice the name of the album I was opening, sorry.? I was just trying to check what happens in an album in a group for which I am not a moderator or owner.? Now I know why there was no Add Photos button there.? :)? Since I attached my picture to an email, it is now included in that album.? I thought of adding it to a new album but since there was a reason for no Add Photo button, it wouldn't illustrate an actual problem.

The albums in my groups must not be set up as email only since I do see the Add Photos buttons when I open them.? Nevertheless, members are not seeing the button.? The one member mentioned that specifically and a few others are saying they don't know how to add pictures.? Our groups use a system of monthly albums rather than albums for individual albums, so most won't try to create new albums to get around the problem.

I already know it's possible to add photos to a self-created album, but how do we let our members add to already existing albums if there is no Add Photos button?? And how can we confirm that the albums are not for email attachments only?? I see nothing in the photos section of Admin settings.? I will ask my group member to take a screen shot showing the lack of the button.

I believe that's the problem.? If I remember right, the albums that get transferred are 'locked' so that only the owner (or moderators) can upload photos to it.? On the one(s) where you have permission, go to each album and click on Edit Album.? There will be two radio buttons available below the Description box, one for Group Access and one for Personal Access.? When they're set for Personal Access, only the album creator and moderators can upload new photos to it.? If you want everyone in the group to be able to add to any album, change each one to Group Access, then click the Update button.

Thank you, Duane.

That is a very easy, if repetitive, solution.? I appreciate the help.

There is only one album for those and it's always named Emailed Photos.? It will also always be the first album on the Photos page, if it exists, followed by any others in alphabetical order.? On my groups where attachments aren't allowed, it doesn't exist.
