Likes

So if I "like" a message post, it shows that i've "liked" it; dumb question probably, but where else is it reflected, is there a cumulative number of likes displayed somewhere or exactly what is the purpose of that feature (other than to tell my forgetful sell that at some point in the past i liked the post)

Not a dumb question. The answer is "nowhere".

And that's unfortunate. I don't think it was meant to be this way.

There are several ways I'd "like" to see those exposed, as part of the long-awaited "notifications overhaul" and as part of search improvements.

I'd like the ability to be notified when one of my posts is Liked.

As a moderator, or maybe even as a member, I might like to be notified when any post in my group is Liked.

I'd like to see "Is liked" as a Messages list filter. Also "Is liked by me". Maybe also "Is liked by [pick a member]".

I have exactly the same question!?

Is there a reason this capability has been suppressed?

It hasn't been suppressed, just not implemented - big difference.? Mark (GIO owner) has said that new features will be added based on usefulness, mainly to paid groups.? There are many small things that folks have asked for that are on the TODO list.? Some have been there for years though.

Another unfortunate effect of this not being recorded anywhere is that there is no email involvement, so if someone who never goes to the group page gets a post liked, they will never know about it.

Best,

Glenn

So Glenn,
If you were posting solely via email you wouldn't see that I just liked your message.
Hmm.? Here's an interesting to turn the meaning of something upside down.

That's correct, I received no notification of your liking, and prior to your mentioning it, no knowledge of it.

Best,

Glenn

Better still,
if you LIKE what someone says, why not reply and tell them so!
IMHO - "Likes" are for social media contests to see who can get the most "Likes".? NOT for serious information exchange.

Not correct.

The Likes info (i.e. to which message they pertain to and who liked it) are saved in GIO's message-attributes database table(s), otherwise the next time you opened that message which you (or someone else) liked it, in the interface, the Likes wouldn't have "stuck".? You can click on the "x person liked this" link on any message and it shows you who liked it.

it's just that while the info is being (and has been) stored, nothing is being done with it, so far anyway.

Cheers,
Christos

On the same note, how many of this group have utilized the documentation that Nina did a fantastic job on actually sent her a not on the documentation group telling her you like what she did?
I think she did an amazing job in an incrediblly short time.

Because that would defeat the purpose. The whole point of introducing the thumbs-up button is that it reduces the need for additional messages.

On groups.io, you thumb up posts, not users. It's not a contest (unless you make it one)
