How to create a new member sign up questionnaire

¿ªÔÆÌåÓý

Sorry if this has been discussed.? I did a few searches but was unable to find any info.

I would like to have the members of my Group complete a sign up questionnaire prior to being approved.? Is there a way to do this?

Many Thanks

?

I created a Google form and placed a link to it in the Pending Subscription Notice. I have the Google form set-up to notify me when I get a new submission so I know when to approve a new member. I like using the Google form because I can set it up so that the prospective member has to answer all the questions without skipping any and causing me to have to send more emails requesting the info. Hope this is helpful.?

Nancy

How does the Google form compare with the Groups.io Pending Subscription Notice?

Groups.io doesn't have that, hopefully someday it will.
This is what I do:

MAKE YOUR GROUP 'Restricted Membership' and use a "Pending Subscription Message"
Admin > Settings > Spam Control
Check the box next to "Restricted Membership"
I also recommend checking the box next to "New Users Moderated"
and use the "Unmoderate After" menu to select "1, 2, 3, or 4 approved messages"
Click on "Update Group" at bottom of page.

Admin > Settings
Click on "Member Notices"
Click on "+New Notice"
Select "Pending Subscription" from "Notice Type" menu
I change the message "Subject"
from: Your pending membership in the [email protected] group
to: Additional Information Required
Make sure box next to "Active Message" is checked.
Compose your "Pending Subscription" message telling them what you want to approve their membership
I suggest you tell them why and who wants it.
Click "Add Notice"

This "Pending Subscription Message" (sent to anyone who applies to join) and the "Subscription Approval Needed" notice that is sent to Owner/Moderator will both be sent at the same time, and a 14 day clock before the subscription application is automatically deleted will be started.

The "Pending Subscription Message" will not delay the "Subscription Approval Needed" notice, however an Owner/Moderator can put the 14 day clock on hold by 'Claiming' the application.
Click on "View Pending Member" in the "Subscription Approval Needed" notice email,
or go to the group's website Admin > Members
Select "Pending Members" (in the drop-down Members menu) if not already shown
Click on the row (not the check box) of the Pending Member
Click on "Claim Sub" at bottom of the page
The words "Claimed by <your name>" will appear in a blue box to the right of the applicant's email address
Now the 14 clock has been stopped and only you can approve this Subscription by email.
NOTE: All Owners and any Moderator (with appropriate privileges) can still approve this Subscription at anytime at the website.
This allows you to wait until you get a reply to the "Pending Subscription Message".

To resend the "Pending Subscription Message" (if you get no response):
Check the box at the left end of that Pending Member's row
Select "Resend Pending Membership Notice" in the drop-down "Actions" menu
Click "Yes" in the "Verify Action" dialog window.

One thing I really liked in Yahoo was the simple form that let people tell me why they want to join. This was built into the join request. Ibwould like to see tgat here. I do not need a questionnaire. I have 4 genealogy groups. I want to know how the prospective member is related to whatever ancestors we are researching.? My group description asks them they need to give their name and their connection to the family before being approved. At Yahoo that was easy. Because there is a box for tge applicant to add info. I rarely had to do a follow up email!

Would like to see Groups.io add a box for an applicant ti comment like the one Yahoo has.

To make suggestions, or support those that have already been made, you need to join the group, the official suggestion box of the site.
