How to create a new database record

Our group includes a database showing members, contact information, and more.? We moved over from Yahoo Groups in February, and now someone wants to create a new database record but cannot see how to do that.? That's not listed under Help, and I can't see how to do it either!??

Here's his request:

I wanted to enter my data in the owners database but do not find the button to enter new data!? In the original YAHOO database this was clear and easy.

Can anyone here point us in the right direction?

Many thanks!

Click on the bright green "Add Row" button at the bottom of the page.

Perfect, Bruce.? Many thanks!? Using my moderator account, I was able to add a row and create a record for my new member.

I later went in and looked at the database through a rank-and-file member's account and found that the bright green "Add Row" button is absent, not viewable or clickable by a member who is not a moderator.? I conclude from that that there's no way at this point for a member to add a record to the database.? Am I correct on that?

If so, that might be something worthy of adding to the wish list.? If other groups use their databases as my group does, essentially to show members names and info, it would be helful to have the members themselves create the records.? Make sense, or am I missing something?

Thanks again for your great support!

Milt

If he can't see the green button, go to Admin->Settings->Features->Database and be sure that "Permissions" is set to "Subscribers can view and create tables."

Bruce

Milt -- If you don't want subscribers creating their own database tables, you could also choose "Subscribers can view, moderators can create tables" in your database Permissions.?Apparently, subscriber view access includes the ability to add rows to an existing table, something that is not at all intuitive (at least to me).

After 6-7 weeks here I'm still very much in learning mode.

Bruce

Thanks, Bruce.? What you said makes sense, but I tried both settings and neither produces the green box.? Here's what I see when I log in using a member's? (not moderator's) login.

I'm attaching the setting and the yadda-yadda-yadda beneath the database.

Perhaps I have another setting somewhere in the wrong position???

You're only a couple of weeks ahead of me on the timeline, but light years ahead of me in understanding how to make Groups.io features work.? It's a great new platform but my learning curve is still close to straight up!

Again, my thanks for your help!

Milt

One just-discovered clue that tells me something is "broken" with my current database:? Our group has two databases, one an old archive, and the other our current database.? I find that rank-and-file members can "add another row" to the old archive database but not to the current database.? I think I'll ask Support for help!

Milt

Okay, the problem then is with the table settings, not the group settings.

Open the table that's giving you problems, then click "Edit Table" at the top of the page. At that point you can change permissions for who can view, edit, add rows, etc.

Bruce

That did it, Bruce.? The more time I spent with it, the more it seemed that a switch somewhere was set the wrong way, but I couldn't find the switch--and wasn't at all sure it was accessible to me.? You did it in a heartbeat.? YOU ARE THE MAN!??

Many thanks for your guidance along the fantastic Groups.io path!

I have to disagree on that one...but we got there eventually. :-)

Bruce, to avoid some ambiguity may be it should be suggested to Mark to change from

"Subscribers can view, moderators can create tables"
to
"Subscribers can view and add to, moderators can create tables"
