How to approve "pending" members imported from YG?

Hi folks,

YG group members transferred¡ªbut are "pending".

I've read ALL the help.

How do I approve them?? (Not one by one, I hope; there's almost 1000!)

?

Thank you!

Gina -- If you had used the Easy Group Transfer mechanism, they would not be "pending." But I understand why this might not work for you...for any number of reasons.

Go to Admin>Members. If necessary (and it probably won't be), pull down the blue menu at upper left and select "Pending Approval."

Click the box to the left of the "Display Name" table heading to select everyone on the page. Scroll down to the "Actions" menu and select "Approve."

Repeat for each screen-full of pending subscriptions. If you want to increase the number per page, go to?/account?page=prefs?and change "Items Per Page" to 100.

Hope this helps,
Bruce

Your attachments showed 2 different pages, Pending Approval and Members.? (There are 2 pending.)? You can tell which page you're looking at by the blue button just to the right of the word Subscription.? The page you're looking at is shown, but if you click on it, you can choose other views.? A tip:? When you select the Admin menu on the left, then Members, it will take you to the Pending page automatically, if there are any.

Me, again. Still trying to figure it out.

The list of members seems complete.

But even some people already listed as members are "applying" and I have to approve.

Is it possible that my setting -- to require approval of new members -- is gumming up the works?

?

They're probably applying from an email address other than the one that got transferred since those automatically became members.? Those people can also sign into their account and change their email address.

Thanks for your help, Duane.

Here's what happened (I think):

In the settings, I had specified that a notice NOT go to the Yahoogroup.

I didn't want to do that until I had prepared everything, learned how things work, etc.

So, almost 1000 are in but they don't know it.

QUESTION, PLEASE:? Do I just give them the link now, and they can participate?? Or must they register with groups.io?

?

thanks so much!??

You can just send them the link to the group.? Everyone that was transferred will already have a GIO account.? You may want to include a link to /g/GroupManagersForum/wiki/Logging-in-and-How-to-Set-a-Personal-Password

Thank you. Thank you.? As someone who has been fielding strangers' questions for 20 years, I appreciate your help!!

Argh, me again.

I don't know what's happening with my group.

Only about 5 seem to have gotten the notice from groups.io....out of 1000 original members.

I've posted several messages in our yahoogroup¡ªexplaining how to interact with the group, set up a password, etc.¡ªand few respond.

I'm not sure what to do next.

Maybe they are busy...or maybe they're not receiving any of the mail?

?

thank you!

Hi Gina,

1000 original members.
I'm curious, where does that number 5 come from?

If I remember correctly, you said you unchecked the box to have Groups.io notify them during the transfer. So did you send them a notice by some other means?

I've posted several messages in our yahoogroup¡ªexplaining how to

Well, since they are now in your Members list in Groups.io, you could always post messages in your group here. They'll probably catch on pretty fast.

Maybe they are busy...or maybe they're not receiving any of the mail?
My Yahoo Groups seem to be forwarding messages pretty quickly during the last few days - a few seconds to a few minutes. So I'm not really sure.

Gina,

A suggestion.?Just post a short message. De-scarify it! Something like:

Since YahooGroups has changed its service, we have moved!

To visit our new home, just click on this link to go to our new homepage.
https://GroupManagersForum.groups.io?
(Edit this to use your group's name instead of GroupManagersForum, of course)

All the messages, members and photos are there.

Your email address is your account ID.
Can't login? Just click on?/sendloginlink
Or click on the Email Me A Link button.

Or email the group at?Post: [email protected]
(Substitute your group name or group email address)

See you there soon!

Sign it as usual!?

Cheers,
Frances

Thanks, Shal.

The number 5 comes from the number of people participating in the new group. :-)

Yes, I had unchecked that box -- to have groups.io notify them.

I wanted everything to be working properly before it did that.?

Yes, I sent a message to the Yahoogroup.

thanks,
g

Gina,

The number 5 comes from the number of people participating in the new
group. :-)
I don't know what was normal in the Yahoo Group. A high lurker to current participant ratio isn't all that uncommon.

I'm a little surprised that it doesn't "snowball" based on people replying to the posts that are being made.

I suppose it makes sense to double-check the Members list (at Groups.io) to see what delivery the transferred members typically have. If they were mostly No Email lurkers in your Yahoo Group that could be part of the problem.

Yes, I sent a message to the Yahoogroup.
I'd send that message to the Groups.io group. Depending on the nature of your group, maybe take a jovial / cajoling stance to it. "Well, a few of you have joined in, Thanks! The rest of you lurking out there, please join in!"

Or, if you can identify a few individual members who were recently active in the Yahoo Group, but have "gone silent", you could try contacting them off-list to see if they can tell you why.
