how can I edit messages?

Edited

We have two groups and in one this is the header at the top of a message:

and in the other group this is the header:
The settings appear to be the same in both groups and my privileges are also the same in both.? One group allows me to edit the messages and the other doesn't.? What am I missing?

Nancy,

Re: [GMF] how can I edit messages?

If you want to edit the message content use the More menu, in the bar below the message:

The button you identified is to edit the Topic's subject and properties:

The settings appear to be the same in both groups and my privileges are also the same in both.? One group allows me to edit the messages and the other doesn't.? What am I missing?

In the latter group you appear to be lacking moderator privileges, or perhaps just the
Edit Archives privilege. I don't know any other reason a moderator would not be able to edit the topic.

Thanks, Shal? - I'm not sure why (or even if) some posts are topics and some are messages?? We're using this a bit differently that most folks - nearly all of our posts are one-time messages.?

If the 'search' button doesn't appear at the top, then the menu from the 'more' button on the bottom isn't what you show.

How do I change the "edit archives" privilege?

Your help (and expertise!) is greatly appreciated!!!!!!

Nancy,

I'm not sure why (or even if) some posts are topics and some are messages?

A topic is a collection of messages. Each topic begins with a message, and then includes any replies to that initial message, and replies to the replies, and so on. All messages are part of a topic, but (usually) not all of them start new topics.
?
We're using this a bit differently that most folks - nearly all of our posts are one-time messages.?

?So in your case most topics have a single message in them.

If the 'search' button doesn't appear at the top, then the menu from the 'more' button on the bottom isn't what you show.

That makes sense. It means you don't have edit permission, and may not have permission to use some of the other items (the menu screenshot I pasted was for an owner). Only moderators or owners can edit the Topic (meaning the subject and topic options like "locked" or "moderated"). Members can edit the content of their own messages (the message body), if the group hasn't turned that option off.
?
How do I change the "edit archives" privilege?

As an owner, or a moderator with the Set Moderator Privileges permission, you can check the Edit Archives box in the Moderator Permissions section of the membership page for each moderator. Owners always have all permissions, and don't have the list of permissions checkboxes.

It's me again - We have 10 groups, I'm a moderator in all of them and the settings appear to be the same in each group; however, there are only two groups in which I can edit topics.? Shal, you mentioned that i might be lacking the "edit archives" privilege but I don't know where to find that?

The group owner (or another moderator with the proper permissions) might have to look at your settings to see if that is enabled for you.? For you to see it, you'd need permission to Set Moderator Privileges, then you could look at your membership in the group.
