Has something changed with the message footers?
¿ªÔÆÌåÓýI have had my group set up so that replies go to the group, but all reply options are available and I have seen this as the footer on our messages (which is fine): View/Reply Online (#4974) | Reply To Group | Reply To Sender | Mute This Topic | New Topic Change Your Subscription ? Now, for whatever reason, the same settings are giving me this footer (which is far more confusing to my users and which is missing the "reply to sender" option): ? You receive all messages sent to this group. ? View/Reply Online (#692): View All Messages In Topic (7): Mute This Topic: /mt/12433655/58051 New Topic: ? Change Your Subscription: Group Home: Contact Group Owner: [email protected] Terms of Service: /static/tos Unsubscribe: ? ? If I change my settings so that replies go to the group AND sender, I get the cleaner footer back, but if people just reply to a message it goes to both the group and the sender so senders get duplicate messages if the reply-er doesn't remove their name from the address bar. ??I've made this change to clean up the footers for now, but I'm afraid this is going to cause some consternation when people start getting duplicate replies.? ? Janet,
The difference in footers has to do with whether the message was formatted (HTML) or plain text. It does not depend on your group's Reply-To setting. You can force all messages to have the formatted footer, if you want: check the
Force HTML Emails
checkbox in the Message Formatting section of your group's Settings page. Shal -- Help: /static/help More Help: /g/GroupManagersForum/wiki Even More Help: Search button at the top of Messages list |
¿ªÔÆÌåÓýNot the first time I've been fooled!? That explains the formatting, but not the missing "Reply to Sender" option. ???So is that something not possible with the text versions?? ?Thanks.? Janet

Janet,
That explains the formatting, but not the missing "Reply to Sender"The Reply to Group and Reply to Sender links are "mailto:" links. Those have proven problematic in plain text (not all email interfaces "linkify" them) and they are particularly ugly as URLs. For example: mailto:desertminis@...?subject=Private:%20Re:%20Re%3A%20%5BGMF%5D%20Has%20something%20changed%20with%20the%20message%20footers%3F So, while it might be technically possible, Mark felt that on the whole including them would be more trouble than they're worth. So I've learned to steer clear of HTML and write in plain text, which, I must admit, is less headache provoking without all that flourish of colours and fonts. Yet, the kind of plain text footer mentioned by Janet is really annoying. The "Force HTML Emails" choice might cause any problems to members, I wonder? Marina |
Marina,
... is less headache provoking without all that flourish of coloursProbably not. But there's also the "Normalize HTML Emails" checkbox, which will strip out the different colors and fonts, while leaving simple formatting like bold and italic, and image inserts.
