File Reorganization - Folder Upload with *.json?

I¡¯m going through an exercise to cleanup the files section of our group and would like to retain descriptions and users responsible for uploading the files in the first place. When we downloaded all the files through Admin > Export each file came with a corresponding filename.ext.json file which contained some useful metadata like Created and Desc.

If I use the upload folder button and retain filename.ext.json, will these file fields automatically be retained? I¡¯ll just try it and get back to everyone.

None of them had ¡°Uploaded By,¡± is there any way to also apply this field on upload?

For those interested, my GitHub project for file organization and reorganization lives at?

Uploading filename.ext.json alongside filename.ext does not update the description field. Interested in any ideas here.

Admin > Export is the backup feature. There is no corresponding restore feature.

It's possible to delete and reorganize files using the web interface. I recommend you use that instead.

No. The json file is just another file in the upload. It will not repopulate the metadata of other files.

Short of having the original person do the upload, no.

There is a feature that allows you (as group Owner) to reassign ownership of Photos. There is is no corresponding function for Files.

Thanks for the reply and advice Bruce!

I uploaded files manually, it was a slog at ~100 files, but went smoothly. I wish the upload Folder feature honored folder structure¡ alas, it still saved on button clicks.
