Hi Frances.? I have downloaded instructions, etc., for moving my Yahoo group to groups.io and it is confusing to me, anyway.
I have some quick questions and then maybe I can make a decision on what to do.

-From what I read, to have my Yahoo Group transferred to google.io, I would have to join the Premium Yearly Plan which has a fee.? Is that correct?
-I don't want to pay a fee, so is there a way to create my own group here and get my members to join and still have the Basic Plan?? I don't want photos, files or conversations to be transferred over.? Just members.? How, do I do that?

I realize most people want everything transferred but I have so many photos with full year folders since 2007, conversations, too.? Way too many and the groups isn't that active, so just want my members.

I hope you understand what I'm saying.?

Thank you,

Jan Smith

Hi Jan,

I'm wrapping up what you are wanting to do:? a manual move of just the
members.

I detailed everything here:?

If you have further questions, do not hesitate to ask.

Thx!

Yes.

8. What are my alternatives to paying for the Premium Yearly plan?
?
Moving members:
?
You can Upgrade your group to the Premium for one Month only ($10 USD) in order to upload a list of members (Direct Add). However everything else would need to be copied manually.

On the Basic plan (free) you can upload a list of members to the Invite page. Similar to a Yahoo Group, it sends an invitation to each email address and the invitee must receive and respond to the invitation before they are added to the Members list.
To obtain a list of your Yahoo Group members you can go to the Manage Members page and in the Actions menu Export (download) a csv or tsv format file. It is best to open the file in a spreadsheet like Excel, then you can easily copy the Email column to paste into the Direct Add or Invite page. Note: this is only for groups with 1000 or fewer members, due to Yahoo's Export restriction.
?
?Send a message to your YahooGroups members on YahooGroups inviting them to join your new home. Include the URL. Or tell them to send a blank email to the Subscribe email address found at the bottom of your group's home page (that is, [GROUPNAME][email protected] ?substituting the real group name for GROUPNAME).

I realize most people want everything transferred but I have so many photos with full year folders since 2007, conversations, too.? Way too many and the groups isn't that active, so just want my members.
AND:
?
11. How do I stop people posting on Yahoo Groups after the transfer?
?
Assuming you have already sent the group a notice of intent to transfer, you only need follow up with those who didn't get the message. The easiest way is to put the entire group on moderation. Or in the YahooGroup management settings, you can set it so that nobody can post to the group.
?
This applies whether or not you are transferring. Let people know what is happening. Give them the new email address for posting. Put everyone on moderation to stop people posting in YahooGroups. And I suggested to Apple users to get rid of the Yahoo email address in Window, Previous Recipients in Mail.

Pablo, so you are saying that if you do NOT transfer the Yahoo group, you can just invite members without having to go to the Premium Yearly Plan, is that correct?

I went to the link you posted above and then someone posted that they could just copy and paste email addressed into the invitations box.? I'm nervous that I will mess it up.? Someone said they put email addresses in a file and then uploaded.? Maybe getting too old for this, gee.

Jan -- That is correct. You can set up a group on the Basic plan, invite the subscribers from your Yahoo Group, and pay nothing.

However, if you want your content (files/photos/etc) to be copied over for you...and especially if you want your old messages to be moved over...you must pay the piper. So the first thing you have to decide is how valuable this old content may be to the continued functioning of the group.

I went to the link you posted above and then someone posted that they could just copy and paste email addresses into the invitations box.?
That will work.

I'm nervous that I will mess it up.? Someone said they put email addresses in a file and then uploaded.
You can do either, or both.

Maybe getting too old for this, gee.
It's not that hard to invite people, and there's really little you can do to mess things up. At worst, the invitations you attempt to send will not go out; at best, you will gain new confidence in how to run your group.?

Bruce

I was almost done, just had to upload the list of names & UIDs into the INVITE for my ~80 subscribers,
nearly all waiting for that easy-to-use reply to get signed in
When I was hit with this message:
?????????? You have reached the limit for number of invites that can be sent out without approval. Once your
?????????? new invites have been approved, they will be sent out. You will receive a notification when this happens

LIMIT?? What limit?? Not having been warned or able to find anything on this,? I thought I did something wrong ...
Who approves? how Long??
??? I? msg'd everyone that there was an unspecified limit and it may take time before they'd get the invites..

It actually didn't take long,? but this delay needs to be mentioned in a more understandable way.? ON that page,
and in the help & FAQ .

Bob

?

To be totally clear, this is not a "limit"...you can send as many invitations as you want. However, there will be a waiting period while groups.io management reviews the list of invitees to ensure you are not a spammer. The remaining invitations usually go out within a few hours. If you wish, you can go to Admin>Invite and click on the "Sent Invitations" button at the top to check status (or wait for the promised email notification).

Spam mitigation is quite normal.?

I uploaded a list of 1,000+ email addresses and it took about an hour or so.

More info on the limit can be found here:

Groops.io has nothing to do with Google.

Hi,

So i started a group with a monthly payment plan. Is that enough to use the Transfer Agent or do i really need to pay 110 up front??

I have 4 groups on Yahoo that i would like to transfer to this 1 group on Groups.io
Is this possible??

Kind regards?
Hermen

Hermen -- You really need to pay $110 up front. The agent is not going to do your transfer for you only to have you "change your mind."

It is possible, if you're sure that's what you really want to do.

Bruce

Hi Herman, it is been said time and time again, that the 110 has to be paid upfront in order to get a full transfer

use PGoffline 4

[Mod Note: PGOffline does not directly interface with either the transfer agent or groups.io to get anything into your new group. It can download your Yahoo group to your PC.]

Thanks Hermen, but - WHY is it SO HARD to get information about this $110.00 ??

I didn't see a THING about it while creating my new group and tryting to integrate over from yahoo groups.

They made it sound like everyhting would transfer over and no mention of $110

Sigh...

Creating a group costs nothing, so it stands to reason that you wouldn't run into this information until you start looking around for transfer instructions.

I don't know who "they" might be.?

We've been looking at groups.io and thinking hard about transferring our Yahoo group to Google groups.? We really don't need all the stuff at groups.io and there doesn't seem to be a fee to go to Google groups.? Are we understanding things correctly?

There is currently only a fee if transferring a group from Yahoo.? If you just want to start a new group, it's free until the new rates take effect next year some time.

The transfer instructions say after the invitation is approved and moderator status is achieved, go to somewhere and give the ¡°go ahead¡± to start the transfer. ?Also important, apparently, is to stop new topics at YG before you give this go ahead.
I am confused as to where and how to give this go ahead.
