Locked did yahoo finally bite the dust this morning?

J_catlady

Yahoo groups has been completely down for the past hour or so, with this message, one I've never seen before. I was just about to move my group over. Wondering if I waited a day too long and it's finally bitten the dust. In any case, I feel moving is now urgent, if it's even still possible:

Could Not Connect

Description: Could not connect to the requested server host.

Strange, I just received and posted in my Yahoo group.

J_catlady,

Yahoo groups has been completely down for the past hour or so, with this
message, one I've never seen before.
I've had no problems reaching Yahoo Groups pages this morning or afternoon. It sounds like you're having some "internet weather" - a local or regional outage, or problems with Yahoo's edge servers.

It only lasted about an hour. Other people thought it was a connection error. I heard from members all over the country.

Anyway, that particular thing seemed to have happened only once, but another thing that's been happening today on and off (all day, at least for me) is to get a message back from yahoo saying "the instruction was not recognized" or some such thing (I don't have it in front of me because for the moment, it has stopped). It happened once when I tried to do a search on conversations and several other times when I just clicked to open yahoo groups, etc. Seems to happen at random times.

It's frightening. I'm planning my move for as soon as possible.

It just happened again, and this time I copied the text. All I did was try to get into groups.

I got that same message at one point today, did the same thing immediately and it worked. Most computers and online services have down time and wonkiness from time to time.

Yahoo routes everything inbound and outbound through a myriad of task-specific servers. It is entirely possible for ONE server to do something weird for a while. In general, Yahoo doesn't worry about individual servers being screwed up because of the way they constantly rotate using different servers. That is one of the reasons you will occasionally get a batch of Yahoo Group emails that are as much as a week late by the time the system catches up with itself.

[Mod note: this thread is really more appropriate to the Y!GMF group.

Today's troubles seem to have affected a wide area, maybe all geographic areas to a varied degree.

No matter: the good news is that Y!G didn't "finally bite the dust". Yet.

I'm closing this thread because Yahoo problems are essentially off topic here in GMF@ of groups.io.
