Date format in email calendar reminders

Hi,

I'm new to groups.io

How do I can change the set up of our group so that the date shown in the email calendar reminders is in dd/mm/yy format rather than mm/dd/yy ?

Current format: Tue, 4/24/18 7:30pm-9:00pm #cal-reminder

Thanks,
Mark

It's not yet possible, but has been discussed extensively on the beta group (official suggestion box for the site.)? You could join one of the threads over there to add your support.

Hi Mark,

As Duane mentioned this topic has been raised as - HERE. Pity it's taking so long to change what I would think is a simple enhancement (but I'm no programmer (;>)

It is a bit infuriating in my subject lines I have to preface with a European date to make sure the members of my Groups (amateur radio - and times - 24hr clock in Z/UTC/GMT) can recognise the date format correctly 01/06/18 - 1st of June or 6th January? Of course the 1st of June from our perspective.

And a last, a lot of progressive on-line sites are starting to adopt the standard for dating format YY/MM/DD/M and no AM/PM just 24hrs.

Cheers

Hi Jack,

?

Thanks for your comments.

?

Yes, it’s very confusing when the day is a number <=12 because the day and month can be easily confused.

?

Hopefully this can be resolved very soon.

?

BTW, I have an amateur radio licence but due to other hobbies and commitments haven’t been on the air for a very long time ?

?

Years ago when all my websites and email lists started going international I switched all dates to Day/Month/Year with the month spelled out.

6 Apr 2018

It may be non-standard for bibliographies, etc. but no one is confused.

The ISO is not common in the US. Most people associate with the military, and even worse with the militant white-supremicist groups that seem to think using the 24 hour clock makes them sound super tough and in the know.

Sharon,

The ISO is not common in the US.

I started using a 6-digit format, eg 180424 back in the mid '70s because it fit well when formatting lists for computer terminals and printers that had tab stops preset every 8 columns. I knew we chose YYMMDD so that any dumb text sort on that column would be chronological. Little did I know that years later that would be an accepted short format in ISO-8601. Alas it was removed in 2004 (too much concern for Y2K issues?)..

Yikes. The military yes, but I never heard of the latter. Ironic given that it is an ISO standard - "I" standing for International.

My primary association is humorous - XKCD:

On the other hand, even though my father was 30 years in the USMC and I have no problem using 24-hour time, I still think in AM/PM by habit.

Hi Jack, Sal, Sharon and others,

?

This Wikipedia page shows the date format use by the various countries.

?

I'm ok with yymmdd, so if only one date format can be accomodated, this gets my vote.

?

It would be much better of course to be able to select a particular date format in the Group’s settings. Surely it can’t be that hard to include this functionality.

?

I have had calendars that allow you to choose. When creating my profile here, I thought that I chose my date and time region, but maybe I'm wrong. I know for sure I chose my time in my profile. Why not have the same choice of date display, in?everyone's profile. That would solve the situation for everyone. Whatever their choice is, that would show in any of their groups and everyone would be happy. It's doable.

Mark has said pretty clearly that he won't be changing to a different single format. Rather an option for format would be added. I believe that it would be an account option (per member) like Timezone, not a per group option.

Hi Shai,

But I thought this was a Group option. Set by Owner/Moderator - not an individual? And I certainly would wish to set the Group's date and time format not have individuals set their own. Me thinks chaos would ensue from this idea - or am I missing something?

Cheers

That's the default for new members, but each person can change it to whatever they want.? I'd hope that date format would work the same.
