Comment thread for Generic Guidelines #codesofconduct

Do the Generic Guidelines go too far? Not go far enough?

This is a thread to discuss ways to improve the Generic Guidelines, one of the example Codes of Conduct in GMF's wiki. Or, feel free to provide your own example with its own discussion thread.

I was going to create a page showing our guidelines, but can't edit the Wiki.

Those guidelines look reasonable.
?
I would point out that the concept of being polite is one that generally falls apart in a written-only format, especially in a non-real-time environment.??
?
One generally forgotten aspect of being a "Good Citizen" is that respect is a two-way street.? I would note that far too many people today cannot seem to comprehend the difference between disagreeing with their ideas and "attacking" them personally.
?
Today's Groups are largely populated by people who were not even born yet when global public email networks first faced these same issues.? Global email networks significantly preceded the so-called World Wide Web.?? One of the earliest was FidoNet.? FidoNet faced the same issues that we wrestle with today and came up with two rules that did a better job than most of the more recent attempts:
?
The FidoNet judicial philosophy can be summed up in two rules:

     1) Thou shalt not excessively annoy others.

     2) Thou shalt not be too easily annoyed.

Duane,

I was going to create a page showing our guidelines, but can't edit
the Wiki.
Oops. Fixed now (I hope). I thought I'd already changed that setting...
