Charge to join?

I have several groups I moved from Yahoo to IO. Today I got ready to move the last one (about 500 members and archives going back to 2000) and the “Easy” Yahoo instructions say I have to pay $110 for a year’s Premium subscription??! New to me but probably not to you.

Contrary to your subject line, it costs nothing to join, or to start a new group...the $110 is solely for copying your Yahoo group. And of course, you also get all the benefits of a Premium group for that first year (see?/static/pricing), after which the group will automatically be downgraded to Basic.

See??for the announcement of this change and the discussion that it prompted.

I'm not sure what you're asking.? Bruce explained that the fee is for transfers only.

As soon as I transfer the group can I downgrade off “Premium” and get a prorated refund? I don’t want nor need “Premium”.

No.? Because of the difficulties encountered and manual intervention needed for transfers, you're now required to pay for a full year of Premium.? If you don't want to pay anything, just start a new group and don't transfer.? It would be up to you to copy over anything you'd like to keep.

No, it?has to be kept premium for the year.
?
You can get away from paying by setting up a group and inviting members to join it or take 1 month premium membership so you can direct add your members.
?
I don't know how you would get your messages or files sent over though.

Hi Paul,
I recently migrated a group over from Yahoo Groups, we just use the group for day to day communication between members of a mountaineering club so weren't worried about losing data. The process was quite straightforward to manually add everyone. We have lost a couple of members who I need to remind next time I see them.
Thanks
