CC filed being filled in automatically

开云体育

?
I don't know why it is now happening with?most mail that is sent through groups IO.
The CC field seems to be filled in by itself and not the member sending the mail.
?
I sent this email to beta and Mark said to send it to GMF so I am.
The members aren't filling out the CC field yet is being filled in automatically.
I can send many more examples if you need to see it.

Ilene,

I don't know why it is now happening with most mail that is sent
through groups IO. The CC field seems to be filled in by itself and
not the member sending the mail.
I don't see this happening in GMF, Beta, or any of my other groups so I need more detail on how these messages are being posted (email or Groups.io) and where you are seeing these CC fields (email or
Groups.io). And anything else that might be unusual about your groups or their members.

One thing I noticed about your examples is that they all seem to be "new topics" not replies (no "re:" in the subject). Another commonality is that the examples were all from services with munged addresses (aol & Yahoo) - not that I see how that might matter.

Any other patterns? What about your own messages to those groups?

I can send many more examples if you need to see it.
No, remember that you are posting publicly here, those members may not care for the exposure.

That said, an in-depth example (full header) might be illuminating. Send it off-list for privacy.

They are sent through email and not from the group's messages.
I am seeing it?through email.
None of the groups I am in or own send mail via the
group's message page if that is what you are asking.?
?
There is nothing unusual about any of the groups
I am in or my groups or any of it's members.
?
Yes, they are all new messages.
Most of the groups I am in have reply to sender so all I see are new messages.
?
I didn't notice what email addresses they are sending from. But now that you mention it,
yes they all are AOL or Yahoo email addresses. I will check to see if I can find some more to
support that theory.
?
I use gmail and haven't notices anything in the CC field from me.
?
I am going to go back to the groups and see if the CC is coming from only AOL and Yahoo shares.
Then I will report what I found.
?
Thanks, Ilene

Ilene,

Upon further checking it is only happening with AOL and Yahoo email
addresses.
Interesting.

So far the scenario is a group that has Reply To set to Subscriber, and a new message (not reply) posted by email from a Yahoo Mail or AOL address. Is that right?

Can you find out anything else, such as whether the affected members create the new post by forwarding or re-sending a prior post, or filling in the group address from their address book, or from an auto-complete, or any other details about how they create the new posts?

It will take me a while before I can test this. I'll let you know what I find out, if anything.

I?know my groups the reply is set to the sender.
The other groups I am in I will have to check to see if that is the case.
It can easily be done.
?
They are ALL?NEW messages and not a reply or forward.
?
Yes, it is only happening with AOL or Yahoo email addresses.
?
I will ask those members how they put in the address of the group.
That will take me some time as I need to write to them and wait their response.
I would imagine that they use the addresses from their address book.
How is that different from auto complete?
?
Thanks for looking into this. I will get back to you as soon as I can.

All of the groups are REPLY TO SENDER
I?wrote a whole bunch of emails to the?AOL?and
Yahoo email users and asked the questions you?wanted to know.
?
Another thing I did notice was Via Groups IO gets attached to their name in the From Field
You use gmail and it shows in the from field just your name.
The AOL and Yahoo users, they have the via groups IO after the name.
So if you were using a yahoo email address for instance it would say:
Shal Farley via Groups IO

I will get back to you when I get answers?from the members I wrote to.

Ilene,

Another thing I did notice was *Via Groups IO* gets attached to their
name in the From Field
You use gmail and it shows in the from field just your name.
That's Groups.io's work-around for "the DMARC problem" at work.

If IncrediMail has a way to show you the full from address (including the email address, not just the display name) you'll find that those members' messages are

From: displayname <username@...>
It is the fact that the actual From address ends with @groups.io rather than the member's actual domain (yahoo.com) that causes the phrase "Via groups.io" to be displayed by Incredimail (and many other services).

Why this address munging is necessary for some email services is a bit of a long sad story. Search GMF for "DMARC" and you'll likely find more than you wanted to know.

Well I did get an answer from one of the members I wrote to.
She doesn't use Incredimail and her address is?AOL?
How does my email show up. I have gmail but I use Incredimail.
?
Here are her answers below. She was the only one who answered me so far.
I guess it would be good to see if there is a pattern. Ilene
?
Hello , I will answer what questions I can.
1) are you starting a new email - NO
2) are you forwarding mail from another group - YES, MAIL FROM OTHER GROUPS, BOTH GOOGLE AND YAHOO GROUPS.
3) are you using?yahoo?when you send in your mail or are you using Incredimail? I ONLY USE YAHOO MAIL, I DO NOT HAVE INCREDIMAIL.
4) do you use the name of the group that comes up?in your contacts? NO. I COPY AND PASTE THE GROUP ADDRESS FROM A TEXT FILE SO THERE ARE NO MISTAKES. <[email protected]>
5) Do you use auto complete? NO, BECAUSE IT DOES NOT ALWAYS WORK. SO I COPY AND PASTE THE ADDRESS INTO THE "TO" SPACE IN THE EMAIL.

No CC field on your messages in GMF, if that's what you're asking.

Oh, did you say that you're receiving two copies of such messages?

You should take such a pair, and analyze the headers of both, now that you know how.

Likely one will show that it passed through Groups.io, while the other will show that it arrived directly at your Gmail. If that's true then it is conclusive evidence that the CC is occurring at the member's email service, not at Groups.io.

I will look into that.
Sometimes it seems that there are duplicates, other times there isn't.
It just shows the CC
for those two types of email addresses.
I will watch for it today and then take a look at both headers if the same mail is coming in twice.

Oh I must say this. I belong to Yahoo groups and Google groups.
In those groups the AOL and Yahoo email addresses do not?have the CC there.
It is only seen in Groups IO.
