Attachments & Memory

An owner asked members to edit out attachments in replies... but admitted he did not know if they were counted once, being stored and referred to, or if each emailing added that to his memory quota... or it could even be related to using an email provider versus replying in-site.

Anyone know off the cuff?

If I understand the question, any actual attachment (such as files or images) in a message does count?towards "memory" or storage limits but messages which are only text will not. That also means message chains added to a reply will not count because they are not an actual attachment.? Moderators can edit messages and remove extraneous attachments, if necessary. Anything removed from storage is no longer counted.

?

See?/helpcenter/ownersmanual/1/viewing-and-managing-your-group-s-storage?single=true?for further information.

All attachments count against your storage. What message they're attached to does not matter.

See /helpcenter/ownersmanual/1/viewing-and-managing-your-group-s-storage?for details.

An entirely reasonable request. Every time an attachment turns up it eats into a group's storage allowance even if it has been sent numerous times previously.

If the original poster attaches a picture, then several reply to that
same message leaving the attachment intact, does the system know it's
the same picture or does it store it each time it the post is replied
to?

Thanks!!

Donald -- It stores every copy. Just look in Emailed Photos and you'll see all the dupes.

It is as I suspected. I made an announcement in one of my groups to
please delete the attachment on all replies so we don't accumulate
extra dead files.

Thanks!!!
