Accepting new members

I keep forgetting to ask what does claim mean? You have a choice of approve, reject, claim (??), send message and ban.

Thank you!
Susan

Susan,

"Claim" is an automatic status that is set when a moderator interacts with a message that needs moderation.
You can moderate by email as well - just click reply and send an essentially blank email.

It wouldn't necessarily be part of accepting new members. If you don't have a restricted group, new members will be accepted automatically.
If you want to be able to assess the potential member, use a Pending Subscription notice. The potential member will automatically be sent an email with your customized message. Replies go to owner emails.

Thank you for the explanation! I do have a restricted group but I didn't understand why it was a part of accepting new members.

Michael P. has given a good explanation of this in /g/GroupManagersForum/message/20168
