A whole week?

Wow! And I've already started the process according to directions! I suppose I will just have to restart again. Might as well close the page and do something else.

Be patient and check whether the transfer agent is a member of your Yahoo group. If so, remember to make it a Moderator, or the transfer cannot be completed.

Mark's vacation does not start until April 23rd.

Bruce

Nope! Not yet. I would have received a notice in my email and I did not. Also checked the group members and not there yet.

Thanks,
Marie Alline

I just found that the transfer has been accepted but I have not received notification of anything from IO groups. Who will the notification be from? I have a lot of email and I could have missed it.

Thanks so much,
Marie Alline

You will receive a summary email describing what the transfer agent was able to accomplish. Generally speaking members and the message archive transfer well but you could have a few files or photos that don't make it.?

This message comes from Mark, but I don't recall what the "From" line says. Try searching on YOURGROUPNAME[email protected]?in the To: line.

Again, depending on transfer backlog, this could take a day or two. I think Mark runs some scripts or something but the process does not appear to be fully automated.

Just be patient.? My biggest group took 3 weeks!? It's worth the wait.

Thanks so much! Last night on Yahoo I started getting mailer daemon notices again. This morning I had a few emails from groups, but hardly any compared to what I usually have this time of the morning.including no emails from the boards here, so I started getting suspicious that maybe something was being blocked, so came here to check for posts and replies, and found your reply. (By the way, I am learning so much from others here! Thank you! )?

In the directions for transferring it says; Step 2.? "Send an invite to your Yahoo Group to?[email protected]"
I did that.

Step 3." We will accept the invite and then send you an email directing you to make the?[email protected]?member a moderator."
It has accepted the invite but I got no notice from the group at Yahoo, which is strange and no email yet, directing me to make him a moderator. I made him a moderator anyway, just for something to do while waiting, but don't know what the moderator settings should be so am still waiting for that email. I don't want to mess this up, so will just wait I guess. I just hope Yahoo is not blocking it. I don't trust them. I know that if there is a mass Exodus from Yahoo this could take awhile. I wish I had done this before.

I got a very nice notice this afternoon that my transfer was done successfully! Whew! What a relief! I didn't know what to expect, so I was worried. Now I need to know, do my members just login to groups.io with their Yahoo id and password, or will they need to create a new one for IO groups?

Thanks for any help on this,

Login instructions can be found at?/static/help#password

In my experience, most people just continue to interact with each other via email; but they will have to log in if they want to download files, look at photo albums, respond to polls, RSVP to calendar events, etc.

Marie,

No, they do not use their Yahoo ID or password. The transfer agent did not have access to any of their Yahoo account information, just the info in your Y!Group's Manage Members list.
?

As Bruce said, they'll only need to log in to Groups.io if they want to access the web features. Files, Photos, etc. For just reading and posting by email there's nothing they need to do.

However if they do want to log in to Groups.io, their "ID" is their email address - the one in your group's Members list. Then follow the instructions to create a password or to log in without one.

Okay. I got that. When they do that, then apparently they will see the "Your Groups" drop-down menu on the upper left side of their browser and will be able to click on my group name?

Marie,

So how do they access their account in my group?
Their subscription to your group is separate from their account; they may have subscriptions to other groups within their account.

To access their account info they'd have to log in to the site, then click on their name in the extreme upper right, and select Account from the drop-menu.

How do they connect to their membership in the directory?
Their address and their account are already connected to your group, the transfer agent set that up.

If you're asking how they visit your group's web pages they can follow any of the links to your group that were sent in the various emails they've received, or go to the groups.io home page and click on your group from the list of their subscriptions.

Thanks Shal! Right now I'm getting a whole lot of silence from my group that transferred over today, so I have been sending the same email to both groups. Still a lot of silence. One thing I noticed. The emails that I sent through my IO group were lightening fast and they went through the group and I got my copy back before my email client was even done sending and receiving. The ones sent to my yahoo groups are taking over an hour to get there and some not at all. I had to resend. Very frustrating! My members are really dragging their feet, but they are not the ones trying to get email to people. I am! And I don't understand why they would want to stay there! It's absolutely terrible there! I guess some people just don't like change.

Have you made the link for posting in Groups.IO for your list(s) available to your members and explained the reasons for this change to them? You may also ask members to send posts to your email personally, they may be having trouble posting and you can then forward these to the new list.

Members are less likely to understand or care about the differences between list providers as they do not have to deal with their benefits or drawbacks which may make their view of this change different than yours.

Why do you think they want to stay?

I wouldn¡¯t send anything else to the old list. It may be confusing people. They have all been transferred, right? Have they unsubscribed?

My lists always go silent when something happens ¡ª when I post a reminder to be nice, avoid characterizations, etc. It¡¯s a fear of doing something wrong.

I would just keep sending helpful messages to the new list.

Thanks Sharon! I'm not sure why people want to stay. Some people just don't like change and are scared maybe that they won't be able to navigate or something. Yesterday was very silent but today I am getting feedback and even other mods are emailing me that they want to move. Yes, they have all been transferred and the one who unsubbed did not unsub from the Yahoo group so I think she might be thinking about it. Especially after yesterday being such a bad day for email! I couldn't get anything to go through the group at Yahoo yesterday at all! I finally sent a note to everyone that I was not posting to the old group and that they should put themselves on no mail at the old group so they don't get double emails. Today I got a lot of feedback from everyone and it was all positive so far. I sent a chatty good morning letter and encouraged them to email me if they need any help with the group here. I also set up a chat in the group for help and let them know that. No one has used it yet but at least they know they aren't alone and can get help if they need it.

Thanks again for your feedback.
