A detail about Transferring from yahoo ...

Hi,
? It is my understanding/belief that when a YG is transferred that any members
from the YG are not "automatically members" of groups.io.? That they have to
logon to groups.io (one time), create a password, etc. to be full members.

? My questions are:

? 1) Do I have that right?? (Are they not really members until they've done that?)
? 2) Is groups.io 'harvesting' email addresses?? Even if they aren't members? (see #1)

? I have seen no obvious 'use' of my own email address due to my groups.io
membership.? And don't really care (it's already way too well known).? But as
an owner/moderator of groups.io groups - and of YGs that will be?
transferred - I'd like to "know".

Jim,

It is my understanding/belief that when a YG is transferred that any
members from the YG are not "automatically members" of groups.io.
Incorrect.

The transfer establishes their Groups.io account as well as membership in your group, and copies their subscription settings (Individual, NoEmail, etc.) as well. Their account will initially have no password.

They will begin receiving messages and can post or reply by email immediately upon transfer.

That they have to logon to groups.io (one time), create a password,
etc. to be full members.
They only need to do that if they want to access members-only areas of your group's web pages.

2) Is groups.io 'harvesting' email addresses?
In this context "harvesting" has a pejorative connotation. Groups.io has no advertisers, doesn't track users, and doesn't sell user information.

1. No, that's not right. They are bona fide members of automatically. If they want access to the group site, however, rather than just interact via email, they have to log on. The first-time logon does not require ?a password. They click on the link they're sent as part of the transfer process. However, for security purposes the link is only good for an hour. After that they have to click on "login" and then ?"send me a link to login." They can create a password or not. Depends on whether they want to login in the future.

2. No
