A couple of questions

Eric Johnson

First, when adding members I have several that have Yahoo records with no name, merely an email address. Do I load the email address and does it require the brackets (<>). Nothing for the name.

Second, when I sign in to Groups.io, I have at the top a "Your groups" choice. It has a number in the center of a circle. The number used to be" 6" which was the number of groups to which I belong. I've not changed the number of groups but the number in the circle now says "1"rather than "6". Is this an issue or does the change mean something?

Finally, when I send invitations, there is a report showing the status/result of the invitations. Is that report only in existence for one day or does it exist just until it is read or . . .?

Thanks as always.

Eric

Only the email address, no <>, quotes, or anything else.

The little number is the total of items that need a attention.? Could be message approvals, member approvals, etc.? You can get a slightly more detailed list at /groups after you sign in.

Go to the Invite page and look through the list.? The Status column will have the status of each Invite (and can be sorted.)? There will also be a record in the Activity log/page for each invitation sent, as well as any accepted.

Thanks for your response. I realize the value of the report. However, yesterday I invited 20 people. Later I looked at the report. However, now the report is gone. Why? Does it remain only until looked at or does it remain only for the day of the invite or . . . what?
?
I need the report to see which invites failed so that I can possibly send another in a day or so depending on the cause of the failure. In order to do this, I need to know when the report goes >poof<.
?

Click the "Sent Invitations" button at the top of the Invite page.

They never go >poof< unless you delete them. We have active invitations here in GMF dating from 2014.

Thanks. I'll find them. It's useful to know that the invites are still around.

Hi Eric,

"First, when adding members I have several that have Yahoo records with no name, merely an email address. Do I load the email address and does it require the brackets (<>). Nothing for the name."

It has been over a year since, using the auto transfer, I moved a couple of Yahoo Groups to Groups.io. At that time, there were over 50 members out of ~500 yahoo emails that were no longer in service. These were ID'd by bouncing and I checked all of them by sending them emails and getting a bounce. That number is now 105 in a group of 926, the vast majority being Yahoo mail. My point being that if you are trying to add members who's emails are dead, the report may have a problem. Unless you know that all of the emails are active, you might sent them an email to see if they are bouncing.

They were not bouncing in the Yahoo Group. It is odd that Yahoo didn't identify them as such.

Good Luck,
Paul, Ohio, USA

I was going to wait a day or two and then try another invite. Your idea of sending an email is appreciated. Will try that as the step after the second invite.

Fortunately this group only has 65 or so members.

If addresses are bouncing the invites will bounce too and the associated failure error will be displayed in Sent Invitations.

You don't need to send a new invitation to people. From the "Sent Invitations" page you can select any that haven't been accepted and then resend them with the Actions button. I like to send emails to people I'm inviting BEFORE sending the invitation. That way they know to look for it (sometimes in their spam folder) and respond to it, and if they don't see it they hopefully will let me know.

Yahoo hasn't been up to date with bouncing for a few years, so it's not unusual to get some percentage of those after a transfer.
