Changing a user's email in a premium group
Hello all -
I have a user who has requested me to change his account email in one of my premium groups. He's been using an sbcglobal.net address and they shut him out about six weeks ago and he hasn't been able to get back in. As you might guess, his account is bouncing. The member and I have discussed all the ramifications, and I've been through the discussion of potential problems with Mark a couple years ago. Having done the preliminaries, I went in to his account and changed the email address and then clicked on "SAVE" at the end. After waiting a bit, the system comes back up the the email address box and gives the error message, "That email address is already registered." The new email address is not in use in the group in question. What's happening and what have I not done correctly? Any suggestions would be appreciated. Dano |

If he has a password set up for the original sbcglobal.net address, he can still log in and merge accounts. You can't do that for him. If he doesn't have a password set up for the older account (and thus cannot log in), or if he's not comfortable with the account merge process (which has its own quirks, see ) things get more problematic. The simplest path forward is probably to just Direct Add him a second time using his new email address. Whether you subsequently remove the bouncing sbcglobal subscription is up to you. This would also resolve the problem of them not having 'ownership' of previous messages/files/etc. that they've posted. Thanks, Bruce. I've direct added him. It sounds like he may no longer have the password.
