From beta - Group Sponsorships

Refer to in beta for details.

Ok, so now people member or not can sponsor a Groups.io group. If the group owner allows it there appears a Sponsor This Group button on the group's home page:

image.png

The funds go directly to Groups.io to pay for their hosting and other costs.

The group can apply the funds to an upgrade from Basic to Premium, or if already Premium to pay for their next plan fee when due.

This may take some of the sting out of the upcoming (Jan 18th) Pricing Changes.

Shal, This is EXACTLY what we have been looking into for our Group.

I followed your link below and read a couple of messages on it but did not/have not found it on a Group Forum page yet. Did I misunderstand and believe it is already available and missed it? Or is it proposed and developed and not yet implemented?

We would use it tomorrow if it was visible.

Thanks.

Shal,

I was a few keystrokes premature with the last question. I looked longer and found the new feature. And then clicked it. And then found out where it showed up.

THANKS!

I have a Premium?Group and do not see the sponsor button on our home page.

Janice B

I spoke too soon.? I found the place in Settings where I needed to activate the Sponsoship?button.

Janice B

You must go into your Settings and enable the function. See the picture within the thread below. It took me a minute to find the checkbox. But once you find it - I populates and is on your cover/main page.

Janice B,

?
I see you found it, but for anyone else looking you need to enable it, at the bottom of the General panel of your group's Settings page:

Even Basic groups have that option.

For free basic groups that don't have a fee attached to them, I think maybe the wording should be changed?Allow members to help support Group IO fees (in general)?because grandfathered groups, do not have any fees at this time associated with them.?Having it say fees for the group may start some kind of panic with the members and other groups owners who view it on my group's homepage.

?Allow Sponsorships

Allow members to sponsor the Groups.IO fees for the group.

Leeni,

For free basic groups that don't have a fee attached to them, I think maybe the wording should be changed?Allow members to help support Group IO fees (in general)?because grandfathered groups, do not have any fees at this time associated with them.?

Good point. For Basic groups (grandfathered or not) the funds can support an upgrade to Premium as well as Groups.io generally.

Having it say fees for the group may start some kind of panic with the members and other groups owners who view it on my group's homepage.

Well, members won't see the checkbox wording (as that's in each group's Settings page), but looking at the green button on the home page they may wonder why this group needs sponsorship. Fortunately if they click the button the explanation there is a bit better:

image.png

So maybe that last sentence could be changed to "... and used by us to help cover the cost of providing this group." Or something like that to try and make it clear that it is Groups.io's costs (hosting fees) that are being paid. I imagine many users aren't really aware of the "man behind the curtain", and that he has to pay for the machinery back there.

Of course, any such change would need to be proposed on the .

Okay, I didn't go as far as putting it?on my group's page and clicking it to see what it says once I do.
I do like the wording once you click on it much better. But I do think an explanation for basic free groups?could have something along those?lines to??go along with the green button before someone clicks it.
As far as me making a suggestion to the beta group on it, I won't do it.
All of my suggestions and ideas made on the beta group are ignored.
So if someone here thinks it is a good idea, maybe you can make that suggestion, or I will just live with that button grayed out and not put it on my Free Basic Groups. But I will look for a group with a green button and make a donation myself as I think it is a great way to contribute something. Leeni

I wouldn't take it personal. A lot of suggestions come to that group. Sometimes they are popular and sometimes not. This one might turn out to be widely supported. It seems worthy of consideration beyond this group.?

Mark has very quickly confirmed that sponsorship for subgroups was a bug. The option has been removed and a refund issued.

I'm sure they are not ignored -- Mark simply does not reply to all of them, and sometimes other people have nothing to add. Or, it may be that the feature has been suggested before, so no-one has anything new to add.

I recently won the jackpot twice, but several of my other suggestions generated no additional traffic.

I know that a lot of suggestions come to that group. I see them. I do not take it personally, but at this time if others in this GMF group feel it is worthy of consideration, they can make the suggestion. It does seem that some members have?more clout then others. ?

I understand that Mark may not reply to all of the suggestions, but I am not even talking about Mark's replies.
I am talking about no one even commented on my suggestions. It was like I had never written them.
My suggestions that I had made in the past would help groups IO with what is going on now with overload.
But I will not make them again nor make any of the new suggestions and there are 2 of them that I mentioned here in GMF.
?
One thing congrats that your suggestions was liked which brings me to say, you never know when something will be picked up on. But being a Basic group owner, I feel what I have to say really has no weight as far as suggestions go. That is just my feeling. If anyone wants to suggest the 2 suggestions I had mentioned here in GMF, feel free to do so. And I would know that the suggestions may be responded to because it isn't coming from me but a member who has clout.

As far as I'm aware, the only time Basic vs Premium makes any difference is if you send an email to support.

Leeni -- I will occasionally take a post here in GMF forward and issue?bug report?on someone else's behalf. I will not do that with suggestions.?To the extent that you might see my posts being acted upon, that simply reflects the fact that bugs are bugs, and need prompt attention. Oh I know that you don't congratulate yourself. But I say you do a great job reporting the bugs.
?
But I?mentioned a sort of bug?to GMF yesterday and was told to write about to the Beta group which I at first said I would but didn't do and will not. It had to do with the deletion of a graphic.
?
Now I am not talking about attachments. This was an email where the graphics were embedded in the body of the email. It shows up in the upper portion of the email when moderating it in the pending messages. They also show up in squares down below. Now when a graphic is deleted from below by checking off the delete tic for that graphic but doing nothing above, when that message is approved, in the email version of the share, we see a X where the graphic used to be. However in the message archives there isn't any X and it is completely gone.
?
So in order to get rid of the X in the body of the email version, I was told that both the upper and lower sections needed to be removed. I did that the next time and it worked. But I was also?told that it may be a bug and I should write about it on Beta.

>?I am talking about no one even commented on my suggestions. It was like I had never written them.

A well written thought hardly requires correction or comment. Congradulate yourself! Anything I write that gets a comment is due to a flaw or oversight in my writing or on the part of an ocassional careless reading. And good thoughts may generate others ponderance so again, no responce - good job. You're an owner. Most of what you do gets no pat on the back, but no slaps, either. Need those? Start a self-help group for it. Personally, I don't think much [positively] towards folks on the "what-he-said," bandwagon. You're an owner. You took that gauntlet up. That alone says enough [positive] about you. If you need to write that down and put it in your wallet (or clutch,) do so. There's nothing wrong w your ideas. That alone paints them worthy. Some folks have a... "talent," we'll call it, or desire and ability, for generating discussion that gets remarks. This is not neccessarily *always* a positive attribute nor does it means they are born leaders. It does not build them or their ideas up nor should it comparitively belittle your ideas or you in any way. Don't be a joiner or a follower. Stay, You. You, "is good thing."
