difference between a chat and a topic?

Hi,
Any advice about the difference between a chat and a topic?? I'm about the invite the members of my group and I'm wondering how best to advise them about whether they? should post something as a chat or a topic.
thanks,
K

I'd say the main difference is that you must be logged in to participate in a chat, and anything typed into one isn't sent out as emails.?Chat discussions also generally occur in real time, and the associated messages tend to be short (kinda like Twitter), although you don't have to use them like that.

Think "telephone conference," but you're typing instead of talking.

See ?and?/helpcenter/membersmanual/1/working-with-chats/understanding-the-chats-feature?

Bruce

Bruce has provided a good explanation. Personally, I never use Chats. I think you'll find traditional Messages much more flexible. (Not least because you can use your email interface of choice, at your leisure.)
