BOUNCING

I got a long list of accounts that they claim are bouncing yesterday. So I used the link and cleared up the bouncing according to them. Now I just got another message - same thing, same list - and was told I am bouncing all those and to use the link to clear it. Again, the same. In between I did not use any of those accounts for anything. Groups is screwed up or getting hacked.

Janet -- Bouncing is an account status, not a subscription status. And you may be subscribed to some groups without realizing it. For example, for awhile every new account was automatically subscribed to the Updates group, but no emails were sent to them.?I don't know if this is still true.?

You can see your total list of groups you're subscribed to at?/groups?

Clearing the bouncing status at groups.io will not help if GMail still isn't accepting messages. If anyone posts another message to a group you're subscribed to, groups.io will get the same error back from GMail, and voila -- you're bouncing all over again.

Again, the same. In between I did not use any of those accounts for anything.
Your GMail account was not accepting group messages. Whether you did or didn't do something with your groups.io account has no effect on that.

This GMail problem was finally fixed about an hour ago ().

Groups is screwed up or getting hacked.
Such statements without clear evidence serve only to spread unwarranted fear and are generally unproductive. If you could share what you've actually been sent with the rest of the group (screenshots, or maybe a forward of your bounce notice), perhaps we can help you with further troubleshooting.

Did your list correspond to groups you're actually a member of? Half on my list were groups I hadn't ever heard of Also,?when you followed the link, did it show multiple bounces or just one like mine ? It has me?scratching my head,?

I got a bounce message today too as did many of the members of my list.? It's a problem because most of my list members haven't a clue what to do.? I'm getting a lot of panicking emails.? Is there some way I can unbounce everyone?

I already did that and the list of groups I'm subscribed to does NOT correspond to the groups listed in the bounce message,

Hopefully the Google issue being resolved will fix things although I can't understand how that would explain my being listed as subscribed to a groups I have NEVER been subscribed to. That's not a Google issue. To be precise, I belong to 16 groups. The message enumerated 24

Sarah,

Is there some way I can unbounce everyone?
You should no longer need to.

Gmail reports it has fixed its problem, and Mark went through and unbounced all the Gmail addresses.

I've received 3 or 4 today, I go to the site and 'unbounce' each time.
I heard it was a Google/gmail issue, and I use my gmail account for all my gio messages,
set to individual emails for all my groups.

David,

Susan Rubin raised a good point. How can we send out notices to
those with gmail addresses if they are not aware?
As long as the outage lasts, that's a problem. Generally, unless you have some other means of contact with the person, you simply have to wait-out the outage.

Or, if the outage is sporadic, keep trying until a message gets through.

Odd that this happened just as yahoo was pulling the plug on all its groups. Anyone see any possible connection?

No.

In particular, yesterday's general Google failure and the later Gmail failure both happened before Yahoo made any changes.

So, unfortunate coincidence but nothing more.

Shal,

Gmail is owned by Google, so the outage affected Gmail same time as Youtube and other Google's services.

What about all the messages that were missed while the account was in bouncing state? Ie, messages sent out on the groups.io mailing list? Is there any way to get them resent?

No, you'd have to go online to see what you missed.

David,

Gmail is owned by Google so the outage affected Gmail same time as
Youtube and other Google's services.
My point was that the first three of the four reported Gmail disruptions (including the general Google outage) occurred before Yahoo made any changes.

Hover over the dots to see the reported time span of each disruption.

I think that is very strong evidence against any connection between the Gmail outages and events at Yahoo.

I have a gmail account, why did I miss all this? Where can I go in Gio to find out if this happened to those in my group?

You have to go to your account?at . If you see pink box, you haven't clicked to "UNbounce your email addy for all the lists you are subscribed to.

I sent a message to 4 of my lists and most didn't even know they missed messages until they logged in to see the pink box at top.

And a bonanza here, doing so they have been cleared to post without first moderation.

I'm not sure we can answer that question! That said consider the following points: (a) Do you use groups.io by email or the web UI? (b) If your email was "down" then anything sent to you would not arrive. (c) Do you monitor this group (GMF) as a matter of routine or only when something of immediate interest to you arises? (d) How much traffic does your group generate?

Where can I go in Gio to find out if this happened to those in my group?

How about your Activity log? (Look for Bounced and Unbounced as Actions.) And your own Email Delivery History, along with those of a random sample of your members who have gmail or googlemail addresses.
