Reply to links in email sent from Announcement-Only Group
Why would there be Reply To Group, Reply To Sender, and New Topic links in the footer of messages from an announcement-only group? As expected, if I reply, a failure message is returned:
500: This is an announcement group and you do not have permission to post to it.
I couldn't find discussion of this in Beta or this forum and wonder if it would be worth a beta suggestion to remove these links for announcement-only groups. |

Mark,
Why would there be Reply To Group, Reply To Sender, and New TopicMost likely because the code that generates the footer (individual as well as digest) doesn't have a check for that setting. I would call that an oversight, except... those links could still be of use to moderators & owners who reply by email. If you make a #suggestion in beta, perhaps include the refinement that the exclusion of those links should only apply to messages sent to members with the Role of Member (rather than Moderator or Owner). looks like an oversight yes, sure Another thing though... announcement-group may not be the best name for it. There are announcement-groups, aka groups that ban discussion, in which all members/subscribers can post announcements groetjes/?is, Ronaldo |
Having just set up an "announcement only group", a couple of related issues:
While I have edited the welcome message to remove references to posting, the "You are now a member!" page (in response to joining via web) includes a 'To post to the group, send an e-mail to ...' line. I would suggest that it should not. Similarly, for non-moderators, perhaps the 'Post' Group Email Address should be omitted from the home page. Thoughts?
