I had a Yahoo Group for 8 years and started having problems with it. I then tried Google Groups but it lacked some of the things I needed. I then tried goup.io Free version and really liked it. After a year I switched from free to a pay plan and love it. It allows me to add new members quickly and easily. It really is about what you need in the way of services. But I suggest trying the Free version of groups.io and see how it goes. They make it easy to transfer your group information and data.

If this is a new group, you need to be aware that you can't upload files or photos on a Basic group.? If you allow attachments, you can still have those stored with the group messages.

I tried Google groups about 7 years ago and only stayed a few weeks.? I then moved to Big Tent for a couple of years before GIO became available.? (At that time, there were no files, photos, databases, etc.)? Since my Basic groups are almost 6 years old, they're grandfathered for files, photos, etc.? I'd more than likely still move to GIO, but with a Premium group.

To be fair, Google Groups doesn't have that feature either.

You can establish a link to a Google Drive or some such, but Google Groups itself provides no community storage.

My evaluation is that the features offered by groups.io are a superset of those that Google Groups offers. As importantly, there is this group and the beta group if you have problems. If you have problems with a Google Group, good luck getting a hold anyone there.

Best,
