Free group storage limit clarification

I was under the impression free groups had a 1GB storage limit

Does each sub group also have a 1GB limit ?

Or is it 1GB for the group regardless of hows many sub groups ?

The Wiki says :-

What is an individual Group¡¯s Storage Limit?

This depends on the type of group in question: Basic (free) Groups have a 1 GB limit; Premium Groups 20 GB and Enterprise Groups 1 TB.

The owner and moderators of this group believe the subgroups share the 1 GB limit. However people have been not paying attention to this and it doesn't seem that Mark is either. I would pay attention though. He might start to enforce it.?

Note that not everything counts towards the storage limit. For example, messages don't.

What Is Counted Towards The Storage Limits For My Group?
?
The following are counted towards the storage limits for your group:
?
Files
Photos
Images in databases
Images in wiki pages
Message attachments
Messages themselves are not counted towards the storage limits, only any attachments.
?
What Happens If I Go Over My Storage Limits?
?
We send you a warning when you've reached 80% of your storage limit. You can configure your group to either bounce messages when you've reached your storage limit, or to automatically delete old attachments to keep you under the storage limit. Photos and files are never automatically deleted.

There is also a preference about what to do if you are over. In Admin, Settings, Message Policies.

Thank you Frances

Yes up on the 80% and deletion etc and that messages don't count

It was the suggestion that sub groups each get a 1GB limit that confused me

Thank you for the clarification

Incorrect.? Mark just recently clearly stated that each subgroup has the same amount of storage space as the main group,

The storage that hasn't been enforced for some time is for attachments.? He's working on getting that fixed "soon".

Good to know. Obviously, I missed that distinction.

So on this list, which are the ones to worry about?
?
Files - not attachments?
Photos - what about if they are attached photos? i.e. emailed photos - attachments?
Images in databases - not attachments?
Images in wiki pages - not attachments?
Message attachments - yup!

Many of us felt that this "bug" would eventually be addressed, and have cautioned folks not to lean on subgroups as a means to acquire supplemental storage. It could be that the recent (Jan 15) elimination of subgroups for Basic groups was Mark's way of doing that.

Rely on this at your own risk.

Everything on the original list is or will be counted against the limit.? The distinction with attachments (of any kind) is that they can be automatically deleted via the group setting if the limit approaches (as soon as that feature is fixed).? Mark had mentioned in a private email (concerning a bug) a little over a year ago, that the limit per subgroup would be separate from the main group, but I wasn't really publicizing it.
