Messages Marked As Spam

¿ªÔÆÌåÓý

I¡¯ve been receiving several messages a day like this one since I migrated my group from Yahoo to GIO.

?

Hello,

?

This is to notify you that xyz12345@... has been unsubscribed from your group [email protected] because a message to them was marked as spam. Note that this may have been done by their email service provider, not by the individual member personally. They've been given a link that lets them quickly resubscribe, in case this was an error.

?

To turn off this notification, log into and edit your subscription.

?

Thank you for choosing Groups.io groups.

?

Cheers,

?

?

This message ?doesn¡¯t provide a lot of information. What message, in particular, was sent to them? Was this something that was sent by GIO when the YG was transferred? Or was it an email sent to them through one of the Group messages?

?

The message indicates the member was given a link that lets them re-subscribe but so far I¡¯ve not received any messages showing any these members have done so. If they do re-subscribe, will I get a message notifying me?

?

I¡¯m in the dark about this and I¡¯m wondering if I need to be proactive and follow-up further with these members.

Please read this wiki page.

The person who is removed gets an email with a clickable link. Your member just needs to click link and they are resubscribed.

If you just moved, probably lots of dead email addresses.

If I recall correctly, you will receive a rejoin message.

I¡¯m in the dark about this and I¡¯m wondering if I need to be proactive and follow-up further with these members.

That's up to you.?

I've had this happen in my group a few times. When I did bother to follow up, sometimes the people on the other end were truly bewildered, and appreciative of my follow-up. But most of the time, they didn't want to receive group messages anymore...but were too lazy to figure out how to unsubscribe, so they just clicked their email client's spam button. This despite the fact there's an unsub link in the footer of every message.

Lots of group owner complain about the "removed for marking as spam" mechanism because they believe it's costing them subscribers. But it's my experience that most of the time the function works exactly the way it's supposed to.

Hope this helps,
Bruce

Bruce -- I received one too and I was the co-owner of the site but I can tell you what happened with me.? I was in the process of uploading a photo (3 of 3) myself to an album on my groups.io site when Microsoft Windows 10 did an upgrade smack in the middle of my trying to upload the photo.? The original email that went through my groupsio site was automatically dumped into SPAM the second the update from Microsoft kicked in and immediately my AOL service sent a message back to groups.io saying I had received SPAM from groups.io so I received the message that said this:

Hello,

You have been?automatically?removed from [email protected] because your Email Service Provider reported to us that one or more messages?sent to you?from [email protected] has been marked as spam.

We suggest that you check your spam box as soon as possible to see if your Email Service Provider has diverted other legitimate messages into it.

You will receive no more emails from that group. If this was a mistake, you can resume your subscription within the next 7 days by clicking the following link:

Resume Subscription

Groups.io groups offer several options for controlling how much and what types of emails to receive. See this??for more information.

If this happens repeatedly please check with your Email Service Provider to learn about how they decide to send feedback reports to list services (such as Groups.io groups).

Cheers,
The Groups.io Team

Bruce, I clicked on the link and it immediately put my groups.io service to rights with me back in.? I had been dumped out the minute the upload and update hit and could not get back in.? I restarted my computer thinking there was some kind of glitch between the two actions and it didn't fix the problem.? Then I looked at my email and the above email was there.? Once I clicked on the resume Subscription, all was good again as I said.

I'm assuming the other people got the same thing and more than likely it happened at about the same time (yesterday).? The time I received the above message from groups.io was 8:34:50 A.M. PST on 12/8.

Sincerely,

Rli@...om

I have a fellow member (who is a member of two groups I own) in a group who has been repeatedly dumped from a group we share this morning...he's using AOL, and presumably a Windows PC-format computer, who notes all his old YahooGroups mail had been diverted to his spam file over the last month...
?
Advice for him?
?
Thanks. TM

AOL has a history of failing to play nicely with mailing lists.

Advice for him?
The best advice I could give him is to sign up for GMail.

The user needs to keep marking them as Not Spam and gradually the Bayesian spam detector will be re-trained to pass the messages.
