Member unable to access Files

¿ªÔÆÌåÓý

Has anyone any idea why this member cannot access our Files. She has been a member for many years but has recently changed her email address, which is the one now showing for her membership. She is on Full Digest, and is receiving the digests.

Elizabeth

Hi there
I am trying to view files, however ?I go to the page it says I do not have a subscription.
I have been a member for many years, but have recently changed my email to this current one.
I received emails daily.
?
This is the message I¡¯m getting:
?
?
Are you able to get me access to the files, there are so many useful documents there.

The source of this problem is clearly explained in the pink box at the top of this screenshot.

Except her membership is the email address she is using. That is what I don¡¯t understand.

Nope.? If she was logged in with the email address that has a subscription, the notice wouldn't be there.

She may well have changed her email address, but did that "change" include editing her Groups.io Account so that it knew of the change? The presence of an email address at the right of the "blue bar" rather than a Display Name might be a clue that she hasn't.

You also stated that she is receiving digests, but it needs confirming that she is receiving them to her new address, not her old one. As Bruce stated there is a major clue within the pink banner...

You also posted Except her membership is the email address she is using. That is what I don¡¯t understand. Can you confirm that the new address is listed against her subscription to your group? And is her old address still listed?

Her membership may have been updated, but her login has not.

She needs to log out and log back in using the new email address.

Elizabeth,

Have her look at the bottom of any message she receives from the group. Next to the Unsubscribe link it shows her subscribed email address.

Then have her look in the upper right corner of the group's page she's looking at. The banner is claiming that her logged in email address differs from her subscribed email address.

Any difference in the spelling of the email address (extra or missing characters, for example) will prevent Groups.io from treating the two as the same.

Elizabeth,
I believe that Bruce has put his finger on the nail here. I'm the co-owner of a group which I access via my main email address but I also created another account with a different email address so that I can test what non-owners/moderators experience and see. When I log in to the group from my browser, it logs me in via the last account (i.e., email address) I logged in with. Ask your member to click on the arrow next to her name at the top right of her browser page. She will then see which email address is logged in. I suspect she'll see the previous address. If she does, she should log out and log in again with her current email address.

I hope it works. Good luck!

You might well be right, but that would mean that the original statement but has recently changed her email address is not entirely true. Finishing up with two separate accounts (other than in the specific instance you related, i.e. being able to see life from both an owner/moderator's perspective and that of an ordinary member) is, I suspect, not what was ever intended when "changing email address".

IMHO we need (much?) more detail about what Elizabeth can see in her Members List and possibly her Activity Log, along with better information about exactly which email address the originator of this query is reportedly receiving digests on. I also wonder if the "new" address - if it is in the Members List - might still be marked NC because membership with an NC flag is a sort of limbo state that might result (and I mean might) in what is being seen on the screen shot that was forwarded.

We will have to await "further and better particulars".

?Hi Chris,

I don't believe that Elizabeth's member has finished up with two separate Groups.io accounts. It's just that her browser is logging her in with the old email address (user name) which is no longer a Groups.io subscriber. If it's a public group, she can still access the group's home page but she cannot see the files. If she was to log out and log back in using her new email address, she should be able to access the files.

Does that make sense?

It does, and you might be right. We will have to wait and see.
