#Delayed messages - again #delayed

Carola F. Berger, PhD, CT

All,
I've been searching through the threads here and I didn't quite find an answer. Long story short, I'm managing several groups, and am member of a number of other groups, and sometimes messages are delayed by hours until they arrive in my inbox.
I tried to decipher what's going on from the message headers, but some funky ISP address shows up in the headers, where the delay occurs and I'm not sure what to make of this.

Here's the message analysis as done by Google's analysis tool?

As you can see, there's an 11-hour delay at a ISP address of 127.0.0.2 - which seems to be in between groups.io relays. So, I'd appreciate if you could explain to me where the problem lies - at groups.io, or at my receiving end.
Thanks,
Carola

Carola,

The 127.0.0.2 address would be internal to the server processing the message (in fact any IP starting 127 should stay within the walls of the device), so would appear to be at the groups.io end. There are plenty of reasons for this happening, some better than others. I would strongly recommend posting this to [email protected]?- it may be they have a misconfiguration and this may highlight it. Or you could just have been unlucky and the message was placed in a pending queue for some reason.

It may be worth bearing in mind that however frustrating it may be, e-mail isn't guaranteed instant delivery, it's designed to cope with all kinds of transmission problems. Traditionally mailservers were configured to allow anything between 3-5?days before giving up and returning it as undeliverable!

Regards,

Derek

This looks like moderation. Simple as that. Carola, are you a moderator or owner on that group?

Carola F. Berger, PhD, CT

Lena, thanks, but it can't be moderation, I'm moderator of some groups, owner of some others, and the same problem appears for the groups that are explicitly set to unmoderated.?

Derek, that's why I posted here first, from the header analysis I wasn't sure where the problem was, and thus, which support to contact -- I'll contact groups.io support and see what they say.

Thanks,
Carola

Carola -- A message can end up moderated even though the group itself is not.?Was a hashtag applied with a moderated flag set? Was the message posted to a moderated topic? Was it sent from an email address that's not actually subscribed to the group?

Bruce

And I assume that you have looked at Activity in Admin in Groups.io?

Thanks Bruce and Frances. Yes, I checked all settings and admin activities - nothing relevant there. I am ABSOLUTELY certain, this has nothing to do with moderation settings. It happened in several groups, for two different emails (I'm webmaster of one association the group.io group is for, administrator of the other), none of them are moderated, no flags are set, no hashtags were applied.

I sent a message to support and we'll see what they say.

What does the activity log show for that specific message?? It will show what time it was received and if it was moderated.

It only shows the day, not the time, so it won't show a 2 hour delay.
It was not moderated. Like I said, moderation is definitely NOT the issue. Definitely, absolutely not. Like I said, I bumped up the message to groups.io support.
Consider this thread closed. I won't monitor this anymore.?

It will show the time for previous days by hovering over the date.? That will let you nail down when it got to the group.
